Crap! I was really rooting for Ippo to win, but I can't say that I'm surprised he didn't. What a great fight!

At this point of the match, it’s not surprising that Ippo was lost. Pretty much at the beginning of the final round the Chief saw that he was already KO’d but still moving. One thing that Date underestimated was Ippo’s pure tenacity, like Sendo, he was still throwing bombs while being unconscious.

It's frustrating, but good storytelling. A lot of fighting anime have the issue with the main character just being unstoppable which eventually makes the their victories sort of being a given, and it's more a question of how they will win as opposed to IF they will win. And having that possibility of losing makes the tension a lot more exciting when it comes to future matches.

The storytelling is excellent! The frustration isn't with that he lost, it's with his timid nature, which heightens the overall storytelling.
