I love the realistic way this show depicts Date's deft ability to roll with a punch! Yet another fascinating fight!

Hey dude, coincidentally Hajime No Ippo Season 1 just dropped on Crunchyroll/VRV yesterday. So if you want to switch over to a site that’s official release now’s your chance. They also included the 1st movie Champion Road Just keep in mind the Mashiba/Kimura movie and Season 2 are still not released, so you’d have to watch them wherever you’re currently watching once you reach those points of the series.

I like how they work the mind games into the fight. Date being able to bluff Ippo into thinking all his moves are ineffective in order to get him to hesitate in self doubt. Shows how fighting is more than just whose stronger or even more skilled.

Jyoji Morikawa or George Morikawa, as he’s known in the western world, is the man who created Ippo. He was a cornerman in boxing and owns his own Boxing Gym that’s modelled after the Kamogawa Boxing Gym. The guy also goes back to being a cornerman on some occasions, so the progress and punches that Ippo learns is something you can learn in real life By the guy who writes Ippo.

Larry Holmes Vs Gerry Cooney. Crazy enough in this fight Cooney was regarded as the harder puncher but that's about all he had. Because Holmes had loads of experience and he had been pushed past the 10th round before Cooney hadn't . It's the difference between a well rounded champion and a hard puncher who is a really good up and comer but is an "incomplete" fighter

Can’t wait to see your reaction to the finale tomorrow. Yeah, you start to see how ippo’s greatest weakness in the ring and outside the ring is his mind and self confidence. He has the body and strength to be a top tier boxer but due to his mind he makes too many mistakes

It is by far the most aggravating thing about this manga and anime to me. Maybe it's a culture thing but if I'm an undefeated pro boxer with 10 KOs I'm not going to be so self conscious anymore. Ippo acts like he's a mouse in front of lions. Something that decades later never changes either it's frustrating.

When you mentioned mind games a couple episodes back I was thinking about this. Everything Date's done since then has gotten inside Ippo's head and made him hesitant

Good analogy... I think Ippo is a more well-rounded fighter than Cooney was, but still a lot of similarities. As long as you didn't fall victim to that Cooney left hook, he wasn't too much of an issue.
