VP definitely becomes a more sympathetic character as the story unfolds. In the second half of the manga, he ends up getting fully redeemed, although it is preceded by one final act of egregious douchiness. It's a pretty wild story, but it falls into full blown manga spoiler territory, so I'll leave it as a reply if you don't want to read any manga spoilers. At this point, the odds of another anime adaptation are slim to none, but you can never be too careful.

So our story begins with blue eye brown eye confessing her love to Onizuka, and even begging him to elope with her. While incredibly tempted, Onizuka ultimately decides against it. Blue eye brown eye understands and isn't mad at Onizuka, but is nonetheless devastated, so much so, she decides to attempt suicide by burying herself in snow. Onizuka finds out her plan and sets out to rescue her, and for reasons I can't remember, VP tries to stop him (probably something to do with the school reputation) Whatever his reasons were, Onizuka is having none of it, and Onizuka knocks VP right the fuck out. When VP wakes up and gives it some thought, he realizes how fucked up that was, and by extension how fucked up he is and FINALLY letting go of all of his preconceived notions. He's even able to properly reconcile with his wife and daughter. Oh, and Onizuka is able to get to Kanzaki in time to save her too, so it's a happy ending to that arc all around.

When I first saw this episode back when I was 13 or 14, I thought Yoshikawa and Uehara would make a very cute couple. It's only now that I'm an adult that I realize how messed up their relationship is. I mean how many healthy relationships develop between a bully and their former victim?
