It's cute, seeing the kids in their younger forms, but it's also a terrifying thing to have happening to them!

Yui's aversion to karate is linked to her rape attempt. Which happened around the same time she was still doing karate. She has said in previous episodes that it made her realize how weak she was, she also developed a fear of men. Which Taichi has since somewhat cured. Though the painful memories linked to her time doing karate clearly aren't gone. She also clearly never told her family, since her sister doesn't seem to know why she's crying. Iori used to switch personalities in order to make her step-fathers happy. So they'd stay with her Mom, who's been divorced about five different times. Also I really loved these episodes, it was just cute seeing everyone at different ages. Plus it leads to great comedy, on top of being good drama.

This last little arc finally examines Aoki, who I've always thought was a little neglected in this series. But he's as great of a character as all the rest, and I know I only started to really appreciate that during these episodes as he starts to ponder what it really means to love someone. ^^ In a way, this de-aging is the creepiest part to me-- because those memories of the past being so clear warps their perception of themselves.

Agree all the way. Aoki was a really good, easy to identify with character in this part. And the forced revisiting of those memories is definitely creepy!!
