At the end Sakura's sad because she's beginning to doubt if she should be the one hunting for the cards, she barely knows anything about them while Li obviously does and is able to take down one of the more powerful cards without breaking a sweat using his own powers instead of the cards. Plus Li is related to Clow Reed the creator and original master of the cards.

Fun fact: In the original Manga, Tomoyo is actually in love with Sakura. Their are quite a few relationships in the series where homosexual feelings are either implied or outright confirmed. From what I've read, this has been removed in the Anime adaptation though. At least Tomoyo's and Sakura's relationship is strictly friendship in the Anime with no romantic interest by any of the two. I do belive that this does not count as a spoiler, right? ;)
