Yeah, no. I was not surprised Luffy wanted to tame the Kraken. I was just madly grinning/laughing when he said that. Flying Dutchman (One Piece); first appeared in chapter 606 (December 2010), the episode 525 aired November 2011 Flying Dutchman (Spongebob); first mentioned in the episode "Squidward the Unfriendly Ghost" (Oct.1999) and later appears physically in the episode "Scaredy Pants" (Oct.1999) In other fiction Flying Dutchman is mentioned first time in 'Travels in various part of Europe, Asia and Africa during a series of thirty years and upward' (1790) by John MacDonald. Also Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_Dutchman#In_television_series_and_comics lists both OP and SB

Fun little fact : Usopp sees the "giant" and calls him an UMIBOZU!!!!! Its a mythical creature in japanese folklore, Oda being jokey Oda, Usopp calling it that is him freaking out thinking it's some mythilogical monster that sinks ships, joke that gets lost in translation for the most part.

The Flying Dutchman goes hundreds of years back as a myth. Any connection you see to Spongebob probably just means it’s all taken from Sea related myths from hundreds of years ago.

Lewd Angel

I don't think this needs to be said, but none of these were spongebob references xD The Krakken, Anglers, Flying Dutchman, all of these are legends and myths that predate spongebob by centuries

Jake from SF

I don't know when this started happening or if it's just on my end but Mega won't let me play the video or even log in. And because I can't log in I can't even try to download it. Rebooted computer and got it working. When Brook does his " turn turn turn turn turn . . a secret" it sounds like he's saying Trolololololol. Brook was trolling you all along haha

As slow as I am, I am aware of the legends. My point was simply that they closely resembled the Spongebob takes and I thought that was cool.

SpazBoysComedy

Yes, apparently I’m too subtle sometimes. I think the Flying Dutchman legend is pretty well established... I just simply thought it was cool how they all intersected with Spongebob and had similar looks.

Just gonna say it so there's no confusion down the line: "Armament Hardening" is just "Armament Haki" that Rayleigh demonstrated back when he was telling Luffy about the different Haki. Now that Haki is going to be showing up MUCH more often, Oda began giving it a visual representation so we know for a fact if an attack is using Haki or not. For example.. that punch that OHKO'd that pacifista, was just a normal 2nd Gear punch (as normal as anything that Luffy does can be).

Miasimon

Well they ARE going to Fishman Island... maybe they'll meet Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy? They already met a talking starfish, and a grumpy octopus (fun fact: Squidward is actually an octopus, not a squid). Personally, I think it's going to turn into a Disney thing and we're going to see the little mermaid and hopefully a Jamaican crab.

Daniel Turner

That can only be said most of the time as it isn’t always shown like when you know for a fact that halo was used by who there fighting or what someone said but no visual appearance
