yea, bleach has a number of weapons where you look at them and are like "how do you actually fight with that". Kira's weapon was one of those that didn't make sense until it's used along with its ability. It's not meant for fighting, it's meant for executing an opponent who can't even raise their head.

Its funny the guy who was fighting at the level of a 5th seat sounded so familiar to me but it wasnt until he said Lieutenant that i realized it was the Colonel

Curtis not sure if you realize or not but 69 boy is the young boy that kensei saved in the episode before aizen performed his hollowfication on them. Kensei has 69 on his chest which is why I'm guessing 69 boy has it on him.
