i knew this series would be right up your alley. a few things to keep in mind. the author tohru is named after is none other than J.R.R Tolkien, Tolkien, as it is can not be spelled with japanese characters, as it must be spelled in syllables, the only letters that can stand on their own are vowels and the letter N for some reason, so Tolkien, becomes To-ru-ki-n, hence Tohru.

I think that kobayashi’s situation pre series is like many people in japan, they work super hard in the company and barely pay bills with the promise of building something great for themselves down the line. usa has this too but mostly in older generations, it’s cultural for them even with the majority of their working force now. aside from the coworker she drinks with she doesn’t seem to have much of social life or any hobbies., it’s crazy because this is something I didn’t even really have that feeling about her out to words until you said it, one of those “exactly! That’s exactly what she feels like!” Moments. Your experience and insight about stuff like this is one of the main reasons i love and still do love watching these reactions
