That flashback has one of my favorite characters, just wish he got even more screen time. Also, Grand Fisher. I feel like was so inappropriately named, yes his size is "grand" but other than that he's just a piece of shit. Less than the dirt beneath Rukia's feet. Mmmm... Rukia's feet...

A few things here: In the manga, Ichigo got pierced through the chest along with fake mom, which is when he used the opportunity to finally get a hold of Grand Fisher and rip off his arm and part of his left side. That ended the fight, because both were too injured to continue. Ichigo's mom did not make a spirit appearance in the manga (duh), since she died and spirits go to the soul society in the Bleach world. Or they become hollows.^^ Also, the filler soul reaper being there at the fight is kinda weird. Why didn't he interfere in the end? Rukia was the one who had the lesson about fights for honor drilled into her, not him. It should also be noted that soul reapers don't die as easily as humans. They don't have bodies, so they die when their spiritual energy is depleted or spiritual body destroyed, not from blood loss or anything. Naturally, their spiritual energy is linked to their bodies, so injuries weaken and eventually kill them, but the stronger the soul reaper (or hollow, as that applies to them as well), the more severe the injuries have to be in order for them to die. A lot of reactors kinda don't get that point, even though Rukia sort of pointed that out this episode, and even hundreds of episodes later will fret over small injuries. A final thing: Pretty much any injury in the anime is probably 10x worse in the manga; there is a lot of censorship going on. In the manga, body parts get ripped off, they get cut in half, all the fun stuff. xD That happens sometimes in the anime as well, but much more rarely.
