Things certainly look completely dismal for the scouts, but what exactly is going on with the Armored Titan?!

Reiner was face up on the ground. Bertolt's explosion didn't hurt him, and he healed in the meantime. Remember, he was missing the upper part of his head, but later on, it was back, though lacking in skin and muscle.

SpazBoysComedy

Yea, I finally started putting that back together later... It was shocking to see that damn Armored Titan back! :-D

Erwin's speeches are what I live for

Just a reminder to watch the post credit scene of episode 56 on Attack on Titan.

This is why I find Erwin such a compelling character. I always thought him a badass, but rarely, if ever, did I think him a good person. He wasn't malicious either, but he did put his dream and desires above the lives of other people. Every time he sent people to die, it wasn't for humanity; it was for a childish dream. To sate his curiosity. II imagine it was in part out of guilt, since his carelessness got his father killed and he was trying to 'make it up' to him by fulfilling the dream they shared, but that doesn't really make it any better. It arguably makes it worse, using self-pity to justify the death of hundreds. It was hypocritical, talking about freedom and moving forward while he himself was shackled to the past. I lot of reactors like to believe that part of Erwin's speech where he seemingly gets all hyped up was true, but no, it wasn't. Erwin didn't believe any of what he said. He's an expert con man spewing a whole slew of lies, after all. He honestly considered abandoning his post AND his comrades just to get to the basement, and it was only 'cause Levi told him to that he decided to go through with the suicide charge instead. If Levi hadn't spoken up and told him to give up on his dream and die, Erwin would've either done nothing or gone through with abandoning the Scouts. He's borderline sociopathic (not entirely since he felt huge guilt for the deaths he ordered), but this is all why I think him such an excellent, but tragic character. The fact that the whole speech he gave to the recruits before sending them to their deaths is so tragic due to the aforementioned lying is what makes it stand out for me among the whole slew of cliche speeches.

A final suicide charge in the vain hope that Levi can pull through with a clutch victory. They're between a scatter-shot rock and a burning twenty story tall hard place right now. Needless to say, shit be crazy.

Connie's weird pun about Eren's house works a bit better in Japanese. Anyway, I'm pretty sure it was just a coping mechanism to deal with the absolute mess he's in right now

WHOLESOME DEUS

Erwin...what a guy...I'd die for him too. In the face of absolute defeat he still tries to pull a win out his ass

A man who lied to himself and other for his own gain. Not someone who you would think of as a leader, but goddamn was he one hell of one.

Nuptup

This is why Erwin is such a legend of a character! To give up on his dream, his reason for living, especially after coming so close to the basement. And most of all, him giving a speech to rally the demotivated corps for a suicide charge! Those last scenes always gives me goosebumps.

To explain Connie's joke. In japanese he says ''Eren no....ie gaaaa!'' Which translates to something like ''Erens house is!'' But ''Ie ga'' sounds really close to how they say Jaeger in Japanese. The joke is that he's essentially just yelling Eren's name.

Erwin is such a great character, I'd gladly follow that man to my death. You really need to watch Erwins speech in the English dub on your own time Curtis, you can easily find it on Youtube. The voice actor did such an amazing job with the end scene, in fact it's my favorite scene in the series, I still get goosebumps just watching it.

Miasimon

That fact that you only saw ONE guy breaking down just shows how dedicated the Scouts really are. These guys may despair, they may have doubts, but every. single. one. wouldn't hesitate for a god damned second to throw their own lives away to gain some ground for humanity. Erwin's speech was just the push they needed to do just that. Hell, it even got MY blood pumping when I heard it the first time. "My soldiers rage! My soldiers scream! My soldiers fight!"

DevilJynx

Tywin Lannister(Show version) + Stannis Baratheon(Book version) = Erwin

Redemption

Man.. Reiner being about to move his weakspot to where ever he wants is OP. His whole titan body had to be annihilated right?

SpazBoysComedy

Agreed! It would be easy to imagine half the forces freaking out in a situation like that, and there was only one.

V_VMat

This show really doesn't know how to scale huh? Eren should be 15m titan while Bertolt is 60m, but in the episode when Eren takes hold of Colossal titan's leg he looks more like 1/10 of his opponent in heightwise (6m) (Or Bertolt being 150m)

Miklar Sihn

The way i understand it, he spread his consciousness throughout the body. But i cant help thinking that he probably isnt able to regenerate a new human body, so destroying the human body might do it.
