Guts and Griffith were running through foes pretty easily... And then we got to Zod! Holy crap!

Not sure if you’re familiar with Dark Souls, but one of the earliest bosses is called Taurus Demon who is designed pretty much entirely off Zod

Here we go, the episode that really got me hooked on Berserk and wanting to see more and more! Personally I feel like the first few episodes, while still very good, haven't aged as well as some of the other shows we've watched here (Hunter x Hunter, FMAB & Death Note for instance), but they still get me riled up. And then this episode. Man, it still gives me a chill!

I agree, the anime gets so much better after this point

I love the genuine reaction of fear from Guts, the whole build up and introduction of Zodd, you get a pretty good reaction how a person would react seeing a monster for the first time

You could say that Guts made Zodd horny

That's interesting... I know of the game, but I haven't played it myself. Zod would make an excellent video game badass! :-D

Man, even though this art style and animation are outdated by todays standards. I still love it. The amount of atmosphere and immersion when Guts is walking through that dark eerie corridor. Only to find slain comrades on the floor, as far as the eye can see. Laying in a puddle of blood. The "new" style of the more modern Berserk anime as nothing on this.

While I largely think that Casca is speaking from a place of grief and emotion. I think the logic she's following is something like this. 1. Guts ran off into the castle to face Zodd on his own. 2. Griffith ran off after in an effort to save him. 3. Griffith was gravely injured in the process of saving Guts. 4. Ergo it's Guts' fault that Griffith got hurt. I don't agree with her logic, I'm just trying to lay out why she thinks the way she does. I mean what were either of them supposed to do? Let more of their soldiers die, let the commander of the Hawks' Raiders die?

It's funny you mention that, as I just got done watching episode #8 and said basically that same thing; how cool this old school style is. :-)

Zodd the Immortal is one of my favorites.

Guts should’ve really taken Zods advice here about griff

Rogue Agent

That red thing that Griffith is wearing is called a behelit. You'll see what it does much later but in an earlier episode where Griffith and Guts were having a water fight, Griffith mentioned that he got it from a fortune-teller who explained that whoever possesses that red behelit is destined to rule the world in exchange for their flesh and blood. I don't know if you remember but in Episode 1 when Guts was fighting that snake monster in the future, that monster was also wearing a behelit.
