This was absolutely mind-melting! Light's genius intellect is as insidious as it is impressive!

It is worth remembering that L did say that if Light was once Kira he would have planned for it to return. It was part of one of the recent episodes and Light supported it with his whole line about it being on purpose if he lost the ability and his memories.

Yeah, being able to accurately predict what an amnesiac version of YOURSELF will do over an extended period of time and using it to get out of a tricky situation like this is pretty insane :P I wasn't too fond of the Yotsuba arc the first time I watched it since, even if it was certainly entertaining I felt it kind of lot some of its edge without the usual cat and mouse game between Light (or at least, Light as Kira) and L. This payoff however makes it WELL worth it, and knowing what's going on also makes it a great rewatch! :D Finally, seeing the difference between Light before and after regaining his memories sure puts into perspective just how much the Deathnote has affected him. If not for it he could have been a decent and moral person with some sociopathic tendencies, instead of the narcissistic monster he ended up as.

This was one of the twists that made me post less, just so i didnt spoil it. Though you were damn close to seeing it coming yourself.

Firstly, he could quite easily predict what he would do without the death note, as he was basically a moral paragon. He put morals above everything... Which is what made him the Kira he became. It is basically his normal self without an inhibition against murder and seeing every crime as capital. Probably a point he reached by murdering a ton of clearly deserving people. After building up a tolerance, your outlook would change.

I love how Light goes against his morals completely after regaining the deathnote, he swore to L he would never use a person for Personal gain lol, shows how much power can change someone

The thing about Misa's lifespan is, she should already have died long before the show started, when that crazy guy confronted her with a knife. But the shinigami saved her and by doing so, she got transferred his remaining lifespan. When she did the eye deal with Rem, she lost 50% of the lifespan she received, and then when she did the deal with Ryuk, she lost 50% of what remained after the first deal (minus the time in-between the two deals). But mind you, the shinigami gain life when they kill a human. Humans have a predetermined lifespan, but a shinigami can cut it short with the notebook and get whatever lifespan was left over. This means that a shinigami can easily rake up hundreds of years of lifespan with just a couple of dozen killings, meaning that Misa might very well have very long to live yet despite losing 75% of the lifespan she got from the shinigami. Oh, and if she "only had 20 minutes," then she would've just had 40 minutes if she didn't do it, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I appreciate how you guys always protect me from spoilers! It's really a testament to the strength of character in our community... There aren't many places on the internet where this many people all stand together in doing the right thing. :-)

Indeed. Chief Yagami and L both told Light earlier that anyone with this power is cursed. Light didn't understand, he didn't feel cursed. He didn't feel cursed because that's what the Death Note does. Its very subtle, but it effects the person's mind. "There's something about the Death Note that makes people want to try it at least once." It has a supernatural influence.

You know I just thought of something shinigami live for thousands of years. When jealous sacrificed himself for misa and his life span was added to hers, doesn't that make her immortal?

Anonymous

Well they extend their life spans are extended by writing names and adding humans time to their own. We don't know how long they live naturally, so it's possible Misa didn't gain that much time

If fairy-tales have taught me anything. It's that you shouldn't eat food from another world. Usually it's because food from your world will taste like shit forevermore. Looks like the Shinigami realm is the reverse of that.
