4th degree burns are the most severe, life-threatening even.

Higher the degrees the worse the burn. 1st degree burns are like sunburns, 2nd degree are hot enough to leave blisters, 3rd degree is actual skin getting burnt and I think 4th degree is like nerve damage and permanent stuff.

surprised you haven't heard this in anime before, but the red string of fate is the belief that 2 peoples fate are tied together like a red string to their pinkies, it's usually the romanticism of a fated love, it's a big re-occurring thing you'll hear in anime relationships, usually Shoujo but but you'll hear girls in shonen talk about it as well.

The Kathy Bates movie you were thinking about is "Misery", Curtis. I was thinking the same thing when I watched this episode. The whole scenario reminded me too much of that.
