When you made that tennis analogy a couple of episodes back referring to Light and L's mental battle I thought it was hilariously ironic considering this episode was coming up

Someone in a previous comment described Light as a flat out psychopath. On the surface this is true, however the true purpose of this show is to illustrate that absolute power corrupts absolutely. Light isn't actually inherently evil he is simply another victim of the Deathnote, when you watch the show in its entirety you will start to see how Light slowly falls further and further into darkness and insanity. This isn't due to this nature it is simply due to how the Deathnote corrupts those it has touched. The author actually confirmed that if Light had not been the "lucky" person to receive the Deathnote, he would instead work alongside L, working side by side.

So heres a hypothesis on L's sitting. Im a teacher and one of the things we study is conditioning. I recently saw discussed in a seminar how you can use conditioning to have people do things but if you punish or reward hard enough you can push them to do things they otherwise couldnt. So the theory is, during L's spy training he was conditioned to think he was more intelligent than he actually was by sitting that way and they just reverse engineered him into a genius. That said the result could only be achieved by, as stated before, great reward or great punishment, the latter being more likely. I like believing this head cannon is true cuzz it gives L a bit of a twist in my head, tragic past and all. Watari says he was already intelligent when they found him but if hes part of the agency, ofc they would say that. Also would explain why someone as capable as L has someone as capable as Watari as a simple assistant. There are other clues that support my theory but i cant bring em up cuzz spoilers.

That's REALLY interesting!... With my history with hypnosis, I agree that by subtly (or even not so subtly) massaging the subconscious you can push people to do a lot of otherwise insurmountable things.
