This episode is why i dared not comment on the last one. It is just so good.

The whole taunting part is about something Kimbley told Risa Hawkeye in FMA:B. "Can you honestly tell me, in that split second when you take down an enemy, you don't allow yourself to take the slightest twinge of satisfaction in your skills and abilities." He has just won in a battle of wits and he is taking pride in his accomplishment. And let's be real, it was a damn hard fight.

SpazBoysComedy

It was a tough fight... But Light has lost all cognizance of how tragic it is that she’s an enemy.

Curtis in you honest opinion is light a Like, dislike or meh character to you?

GoldArthur

Most shounen anime will have teenage characters, but have them act like adults. Light genuinely acts like a teenager in that position. He hasn't fully developed the reasoning and empathy section of his brain, and, instead is more satisfied with his skills and winning. THIS is why teenagers shouldn't vote.

I guess you could say there was no Ray of hope left for Naomi this episode... I'll go ahead and shoot myself now

I fucking love Light 😂

I mean really you didn’t think Light was a complete psycho/asshole way back in like episode 1 or 2 when he said he’d take out his own family if they got in his way?! Lol C’mon

It would be hard to be light for me, because ryuk would make me laugh and give up my identity instantly.

SpazBoysComedy

What is the fascination with challenging one’s thoughts on characters? C’mon! 😂... At that point, I thought it might be hyperbole, born of a rush with his new status. Since then, he has proven it was not hyperbolic and he’s all in on taking out anyone who opposes him.. Hopefully, that’s an adequate rationale. 😄

I don’t think people should be upset at people disliking light. He is a great and very unique protagonist but is indisputably evil. That moment when he says “I’m Kira” was so chilling and dark I fucking loved it. And the crazy thing is that I have no problem cheering for the bad guy, but at some point during the episode I switched sides because she won me over, you know she’s dead but you’re still like “noooo” And then that moment right after, when he reveals his true identify, it’s like a morbid rush, like you feel the doom that she felt in that moment. This comment is long enough but I think scenes like this are what make using a serial killer as a protagonist to drive the story forward is really cool, maybe I’ll get to talk more about that later.

This has to be the most bitter sweet anime, you kinda wanna root for the main character, but at the same time he's a complete psychopath

Miasimon

Reminder that Light straight up said that he's perfectly willing to kill off his entire family to avoid getting caught. Looks like we've got another person on Team L!

The difference is, that back then he didn't want to do it, but he was ready to for the greater good. This time it seemed as if he was enjoying himself.

I think this was the episode back in the day that really hooked everyone, the premise is great and all, but these last few with the fbi agent and his fiance, were extremely morbid and fucked up, which you know, the people love

Light wrote for the cause of death: "Thinks of the best way to commit suicide that won't bother others and will make it so her body isn't discovered. Thinks of nothing but suicide carries out her plan, and dies within 48 hours." Source: Death Note Wiki deathnote.fandom.com

I can't say that she was innocent. She "knew" who Kira was, so she became biggest enemy at this moment.

SpazBoysComedy

I would say that, while she’s definitely Light’s enemy, she’s also completely innocent. His initial goal was to eliminate “bad” people, and now he’s comfortable with offing anyone who is inconvenient to him. I don’t think that having information on a serial killer takes away your overall innocence.

Naomi Misora was the main character of a prequel novel where she worked with L called "Death Note: Another Note." The events are referenced twice in the series, with Naomi mentioning she worked with L 2 years ago and a small reference next episode.

You exposed yourself Curtis you're not a psychopath and you do have a soul, now if you were actually a phsychopath you would be rooting for light like i am.

Cetacean Needed

It's so rare for a series to pull off the villain protagonist trope as well as Death Note does. It kind of a running theme for Death Note to take a trope that is difficult to do well and play it to the hilt (like the Battlefield of the Mind theme it uses). Part of what makes their portrayal of the villain protagonist so so good is that we the audience can fully understand what led Light to his current path. If you had a death note wouldn't you be at least tempted to remove the worst of humanity? Just take that temptation, add a bit of supergenius, and some ambition and there you have Light.

Cetacean Needed

As a person I hate Light with every fiber of my being. As a character, I love him. The writing for him, his clear motivations, his tenacity, they're a large part of what make this such a great series. I think that oftentimes people have trouble separating their thoughts on the character's actions and the character's narrative position.

Schmul Sjifris

"She's an ex-cop, shed probably beat your ass". Well he didnt know she was an ex cop when thinking it. But yeah, she totally would. She knows martial arts and such. There's actually a novel where she is the main character. Though its hard to say it's been stapled as canon it is part of the Death Note property.
