I am REALLY enjoying the way this is all coming together at the end! I even think the fight between Yusuke and Yomi ended in a great fashion! This is not at all what I would have expected when this arc began, but I couldn't be happier with it!

So South Park Satan is crowned King of Demon world and it turns out Ogre was the narrator all along even with that we still have another episode of tying up to do :) Looking forward to Monday

flameenforcer619

I think this episode is the first time Hiei ever called Yusuke by his first name instead of just "detective." I'm not sure though, I could be wrong.

SpazBoysComedy

Whoa! How did I miss the similar design and sound of South Park's Satan?! Good call; I'm ashamed of myself for not catching that! :-D

Do you know what I think we should do now? Have a poll. Before y'all start jumping to conclusions, I'm fully aware that Bebop, DT, and Hellsing are up next. I was referring to what Curtis mentioned about using the 1$ to show all those anime that are constantly mentioned, but just miss winning out the top spot (Code Geass, Attack on Titan, Fate, etc.), after we're done with the above three. Basically, I propose we hold a nominations poll VERY soon and decide the three or four anime after we're done with Hellsing. I mean, going into DB Super, we had already decided the next four anime following that. So, my idea is that Curtis makes a nominations notice, and the top four proposed anime with the most likes are chosen for the reactions. How does that sound?

Dang... I just now realized that the last episode of YuYu, is 5 days older than me.

OK, so, since you've already seen to the end, I will say what I've been wanting to; why I believe the last arc seemed so peaceful and disconnected from the action. This is long, but I think it's worth the read: This whole story is based around Yusuke's growth and development. From the very beginning, Yusuke's struggle; his way of separate good from evil, was defined by pure individuals, and corrupt adults/authority. Through his time in the story, he's constantly trying to reinforce, and better understand this philosophy. Genkai blurred the lines, as an adult, that was understanding and nurturing, and didn't abuse her power. Toguro blurred the lines even further, as he had once been like Yusuke, but grew to be a corrupt adult. Finally, Sensui obliterated those lines entirely, with a stance and personality (disorder), that allowed him to be both pure and corrupt at the same time. This shattered Yusuke's worldview, and, at the end of the Sensui arc, he felt lost, detached, and unsure who he was, and what he was supposed to be doing. Even to the point that he viewed demons eating humans as no big deal. Then, Yusuke travels to demon world to meet his demon ancestor and take out his rage on him, and hopefully get some new answers in the process. Once again, his views on authority are dashed against the wall, as he's forced to empathize with his "father" and take over his place, to maintain balance in demon world. Yusuke, now one of the greatest authorities himself, decides that the best option would be to do away with ALL authority, and pressure everyone into fighting on equal terms. Then, during his fight with Yomi, it becomes apparent to Yusuke, that, this has changed nothing. He's still just fighting with Yomi for a seat of power. He's not defining himself, he's not changing the nature of authority, and he's not fighting for anyone, but himself. In other words, he lost. Parallel to this, you have another philosophy going on inside Yusuke that he's not aware of. Early on, Genkai instilled in him her most important lesson. "It's time you bit the bullet and started caring about something with all your heart and energy, but you can't care about it if you're holding yourself back in case it doesn't work out. Concentrate on what's important, Yusuke. Then, commit to it all the way." At the time, Yusuke lashes out at her, claiming she's like all the other authority members abusing her power. Later on, when fighting Suzaku (bird guy), he remembers this, because Keiko is at risk and it gives him a surge of power. He mistakenly assumes this is because it just gave him motivation to use the last of his power. Later on, when Genkai is dying in his arms, she tries to clarify this lesson to him, "No human is ever a one-man show. Every decision you make will effect the countless people that care about you. You-", dying before she could finish. In the fight with Toguro, he tried to take this lesson to heart, by dedicating his fight to his friends, but he was still holding back. He was still trying to work out his own philosophy, and still had a personal stake in the fight. He was trying to convince himself of his own ideology through the fight. It was only after he thought Kuwabara died that finally stopped caring about himself and his own view. In his mind, that was it. He mastered what Genkai had told him, and he fully committed himself to his friends, and now the fight was over, but once again, he misunderstood. He went back to focusing on himself and his own worldview. Now, this brings me to the final arc. Skip forward to his fight with Yomi. Yusuke's worldview is shattered. He doesn't know who he is, or why he's fighting. His friends aren't in danger, for him to commit to protecting them. THAT's when Raizen steps in. Raizen had a similar experience to Yusuke. He lived an empty life; killing, eating, conquering, and killing some more. He found a purpose in a human woman. Someone that was weak and frail, and someone he could kill easily, but he saw a future in her, but ran away. To atone for running away, he dedicated the rest of his life to her. When Yusuke is at his lowest, he compares himself to Raizen, and remembers that he made a promise to get back to her. This gives him a new reason to keep fighting, and make it through this tournament. He fully understands Raizen at this point, and embraces his power. As the fight proceeds, Yusuke thinks more and more about the choice Raizen made and his love for Yusuke's ancestral mom. He thinks more about Keiko and the others that he's come to love. This love begins to reawaken his humanity that he had distanced himself from. He takes pride in it, and reawakens his spirit energy. As he reflects on all the people he wants to get back to, he remembers Genkai's words. He realizes that the "fight" she was talking about was not the fight with Toguro, nor any other physical "fight". It's the "fight" of life: the reason to keep going, and your motivation to move on. He's not supposed to live on wielding power for his own purposes, seeking to change and influence the world to fit his own vision, like Mokuro, and Yomi had been for centuries. He would find fulfillment in living for others, and using his power to carve out a better world for his loved ones and the future. At this point, he realizes the final words that Genkai was going to say before she died, "You're fighting for them; for THEIR future." At this point Yusukue unlocks that new energy, that's similar to Sensui's sacred energy. Sacred Energy is only unlocked by someone that casts aside all material attachment and attains a form of enlightenment, like the Buddha. They made it a point to say that Yusuke's energy is different. He didn't obtain it by casting aside material attachment and reaching enlightenment. He obtained it by casting aside SELFISH desire. This is why the fighting seems so lackluster, because the actual fights aren't the point of this arc and only act as catalysts for the real conflict going on inside everyone's heads. He finds peace in saying goodbye to Koenma and Raizen, and, after taking care of some final business in demon world, he heads back, dedicated to a peaceful life with Keiko, his friends, and the future that he can make with them. He will never again fight for himself, and finds true happiness in that, similar to how Raizen found happiness in never eating humans again. The reason that this affected everyone else, including Raizen's ancestors, the demon friends from the dark tournament, Hiei, and Kurama (whom affected Mokuro and Yomi, respectively) is because Yusuke lived his life by action instead of thought. The downside to this was that he had to experience everything for himself to learn Genkai's lesson, and it took him a long time. However, Yusuke being a man of action had an incredible consequence. Yusuke lived out this lesson for everyone else to see. They experienced it, and were able to apply this selfless hope for a better future to their own lives. EVERY single growing character in this series reached that same conclusion in the end, and it was all thanks to Genkai's first and final lesson to Yusuke, and the way that Yusuke lived his life. It lead to the reform of an entire dimension of beings, being spread from one person to the next by example. I suggest looking up Genkai's speeches to Yusuke again: the one he remembered while fighting Suzaku (which I view as the most important scene of the series), what she told him while dying, and the complete speech he recalled/realized while fighting Yomi, then compare it to the overall end of the series.

It sounds okay except that, when I set up this idea, I said I would post series that I hear you guys talking about a lot and see showing up in polls, but not making it. The whole idea was to eliminate the contentiousness we've seen surrounding the polls by taking on the series at this level myself.

August B Denys

I've got nothing to say, this episode is great.

Daniel Gonzalez

Come on don't let it end Monday just one more video the 2018 ova it has two stories and one is about something mentioned in this episode and the other is straight up canon from the manga it was just never animated till last year (I consider the other story canon too tho I don't remember it being in the manga tho I'm sure togashi had some input on it)

Daniel Gonzalez

So another reason I always loved yusuke and keiko is because they both admit their feelings for each other which in anime can be one of the most annoying it's like just confess already but also back to yusuke he's the best king of the one liners (although this show had some GOATS in it with Hiei Kuwabara and even Kurama etc. getting in some good ones) loved his it ain't a good party if someone doesn't end up on the floor and if he thinks so highly of keiko then she must be perfecting

Anthony Iacobucci

Hey Curtis, given any thoughts about reacting to the 2018 OVA which explains how Hiei and Kurama met and the story that happens after the end of YYH? It's fully-subbed on YouTube.

Miklar Sihn

Remember the kids fight, it takes more than a backhand to teach him manners.

Preet

Def one of the best episodes in anime that did such a great job wrapping up the entire series!

Chris D. Jones

What’s next btw? I don’t remember or I missed that post
