What GREAT characters and settings in this show!... And now, if Sentarou is, indeed, smitten, maybe that will get rid of the third wheel for Kaoru and Ritsuko.

After seeing the first episode of this here it really caught my attention, since then I've watched a good chunk of it and I'm loving it, thanks for another great series choice Enzo!

Songs in this episode: Summertime by George Gershwin from the American Opera Porgy and Bess - it was the episode title Bags Groove by Milt Jackson - played in the basement, a standard jazz tune for learning how to improvise Tommy Flanagan and Elvin Jones - Tommy was a Jazz pianist and Elvin Jones was a drummer. There are two possible albums Jun was referring to: 1) Overseas or 2) Lonely Town. Based on style I would guess the former, Overseas for its Bebop style Kids on the Slope the main theme - this was played when Kaoru was swimming in circles. It's one of the original pieces of music I really dig from the music composed for the series. Of course Moanin, but since that was a repeat and a theme throughout the series so it will become familiar. On a note about the episode, I find it really interesting to make 2 of the three main protagonists Christian, definitely a minority in Japan, and Japan being one of the few countries to historically resist colonization.

It's not an uncommon setup in Josei anime (slice of life anime aimed at women) such as this one. For one character to be a nerdy introvert and the other to be an outgoing delinquent. Usually the nerd will be kind of a jealous prick, since he's usually from a bit more of an elite background than the delinquent. Ritsuku and Sentarou being Christian makes a lot of sense. Since Kyushu the region of Japan they're from is actually where Catholic missions first took root in the country. In a way Sentarou kind of reminds me of your stereotypical Irish or Italian American punk in Hollywood films set in New York. He's a tough guy gets in a lot of fights but he goes to Church, like a good Catholic boy.
