This episode caught me off guard, in the way it was presented. It was also one of my favorites, as this little look into each of these characters was cute, fun and REALLY entertaining!

Loved the different stories and especially Uncle Iroh

Noah

Mako was the voice actor of Iroh but he unfortunately passed away

Quick, albeit sad, fact. The in memory of mako was not for iroh’s son, his name is Lu Ten. It was created in memory for the voice actor of Iroh, Mako Iwamatsu who passed away of esophageal cancer at the age of 72 while avatar was still airing. Its sad. But i believe its important for understanding this episode.

‘Leaves from the vine Falling so slow Like fragile tiny shells Drifting in the foam Little soldier boy Come marching home Brave soldier boy Comes marching home Those leaves did grow From branches overgrown Drifting slowly down Resting on the loam Little soldier boy Taken from home Forced to fight a war That's not his own Leaves from the vine Falling so slow Like fragile tiny shells Drifting in the foam Little soldier boy says "Carry me home" Sleeping soldier boy Is carried home’ As you can see from the Lyrics, Iroh son didn’t want to go to war, supposedly he wanted to just open up a tea shop, but ended up being in the war and died, that’s why Iroh open up the Tea shop.

Mako was the voice actor for Iroh who passed away during season two

Also Iroh voice actor pass away I think at the start of Book 3/season 3 that’s why they put that at the end of Iroh short story.

GoldArthur

Mako is the original voice actor for Iroh. He passed near the end of season 2. That "Leaves from the Vine" song always gets me tearing up, and it takes a lot to make me cry. It's about a son that was KIA, which, of course, also applies to Iroh's son, in the context of this story.

The tale of Iroh makes me tear up everytime, idk why

Chrome

yeah as several people have mentioned already, this episode was in memory of Iroh's voice actor Mako, he passed away when they were making season 2, he still voiced the character for most of season 2 but if you pay attention you can hear his stand in, in certain episodes like parts of this one, Mako was an amazing voice actor who did a lot of classic roles from my childhood. main two being Iroh from avatar obviously and Aku from samurai jack, his stand in does a good job replicating his voice, but you can tell the difference, his voice and talent was just that special.

Just another reason to love Iroh he could see Aang and Rokus dragon as spirits when normal people shouldnt of been able to(still cant) he Controlled a Lightning bolt something that takes extreme skill and mastery to do and did it with comedic effect before it was a thing he has knowledge of the spirit world and the real world in general and is wide awake to whats going on around him and he almost always knows when someones struggling and just needs a little help and hes glad to give it to them even if they dont want it because hes been on both sides of the knife....just imaging what hes been through and done to get like he is now...its sad but sweet at the same time

Wishmaker007

Uncle Iroh's original voice actor died and what you listened in this episode was his last recorded lines which is why it is more impactful when you listen his final tribute to the show which is his song, very sad but powerful, rip Mako

I'm never quite ready for the Tale of Iroh. I've watched it countless times and it always manages to get to me.

Koala Banana

Such a great episode. Iroh's gets me every time.

Garlic

I JUST realized the fur momo took out the bag was what Aang used to leave that hair trail for azula to follow. They thought of everything lol.

I always go and rewatch uncle irohs part. Rip Mako 😢

This why Iroh the best character

Dandy

It's not so much that Zuko doesn't have any game (not to say he's a playa either) but, if you'll notice, he tells her "It's complicated" before he goes home. You can see that he liked her, in fact he almost went so far as to let himself forget about his burdens/past and just kiss her again, but he pulled himself back at the last second. The night they had was fun, Zuko helped put the magic back to her favorite spot and the little crush she had was sweet, but he's a Prince with a cross to bear and she's an innocent town girl.

"Tale of Iroh" oh... oh no... Leaves from the vine, falling so slow...

Anciient

These individual adventures are great.

꧁Coltonius Maximus꧂

Mako's tribute always makes me cry, cause iroh is such a good dude, seeing him like that makes me so empathetic, and you can tell throughout season 3 that iroh doesn't talk much

Liesmith

Iroh's tale demolishes me emotionally every time. I can't even summarize it for people without tearing up.

Sit down try nor to cry at Iroh"s skit...… proceeds to cry like a bitch

I'm a bit surprised he can't juggle a little

As someone who lost my father to war, the Iroh part of this episode really hit me. I just couldn't stop the tears slowly pouring down my face as I relive the emotions of my love and desire to see my father again, when I see Iroh's love for his son.

Straight White Male

Mako, the voice actor who played Iroh also died around this time and the episode was dedicated to him .

RIP Mako...

Scryehard

The love-thing between Zuko and that girl seemed pretty forced. I don't understand why she's throwing herself at him like that.
