Man, it always gets to me when Yusuke says that he kind of looked up to Toguro, since he didn't have anyone else like a father or a brother to fill that role in his life. It emphasizes how young he is, making his character feel very real and emotionally complex.

Based on his power ups to this point, I always considered this final form Toguro’s %120 as a kid. But based on the true conversion you can put into perspective how much stronger yusuke has become since he and ging first fought toguro. According to toguro he’s been discounting his own power level percentage this whole time. He used 17% when he lost to yusuke and ging the first time. And he kinda threw that fight even then. He used 51% when showcasing his power to yusuke before the tournament. 68% to kill Genkai and to start off the final vs yusuke. 85% to wipe the floor with yusuke and kill Kuwabara and most of the spectators. And finally 100% against “RIP-Ging” Yusuke. He was a true monster. Can’t wait until the old man sees the next explanation on that too. Toguro was a liar through and through.

I love how this is both one of the main tournament arcs of all time and how much it breaks the mold. This arc is one of the reasons that this show is still so worth watching, even if you have a broad knowledge base of anime.

The whole 85% was a change from the dub. In Japanese, Togoro was at 100% and he calls his last transformation 100% of 100%. What exactly that means, I guess is up to you.

Basically, Toguro was trying to find a way to die. He wanted a self regenerating demon body of the highest known power and that's what he got. So essentially, he was just short of being immortal. But as the years went on, he slowly started to realize what he had lost when he gave up his humanity and was longing for it to just end. But as powerful as he was, he wouldn't just die and no one was powerful enough to kill him. Even if he only ever used half of his power, he would just regenerate from any injuries he took, so he needed someone who was stronger than him at his best, in order to exhaust all the power he had to stop any regeneration. Thus he forced Genkai's hand to find a worthy student and make them as powerful as possible and manipulated the Dark Tournament to make them even stronger still. All in the hopes that this one person would be strong enough to finally kill him. Hence his final words to both Yusuke and Genkai.
