This show certainly gets to your feels from a lot of different angles! It was really sad seeing Daikichi's cousin have to come to grips with staying in an unhappy marriage because the alternative is too difficult... On the plus side, Kouki is getting cooler and cooler...and so is his mom. :-D

Yeah, this shows fleshes out parenting quite well. I don't believe I know of any other series that does this as effectively as Usagi Drop. Also, yes the Japanese are still very respectful in general to one another. There's this channel I tend to look into time to time again, great guy. He's been living in Japan for most of his life and educates his viewers from our expectations to the reality of how things are in Japan. https://www.youtube.com/user/Gimmeabreakman

That looks like a GREAT channel! Japanese culture has become a thing of great interest to me. Thanks for the link, My Friend. I'll be spending too much time over there for a few days! :-D

Such a great anime. I should note that once you get to the final episode I have a whole comment I’m ready to copy and paste to have you know how it ends in a manga... Of course I will only let you know if you think you are brave enough xD “evil laugh”

I promised myself that I'd go right to bed after working overtime tonight. I need to stop believing myself. It'd be one thing if Haruko's husband was working overtime to support his family. That at least could be forgiven. But everything I've observed about the guy points to being a social climber. That's why he works overtime to get ahead in the company. He probably got married for the same reason, and had a kid for the same reason. It shows the higher ups that he's "responsible" being a "family man" looks good at your performance review. If he gave a shit about his wife and child he'd stand up to his parents about their treatment of Haruko. More likely than not they're the ones who instilled this social climbing mentality in him. Which probably included "No back talk to those in a position of power even if you disagree with them." Hence why his wife is treated like a doormat and he doesn't say a word. Also I never had a sister so I never experienced my Mom shopping with her. But that after credit scene with Daikichi and Kouki was so relatable. Whenever we were at the mall, it'd just be my brother, my dad and I waiting for her to hurry up.

In ways Japan's society is the opposite of American society. There is more of a general feeling of how others will perceive this or how will this help others. I think the 'respect' flows more from the fact that the group is put before the individual in Japan. This isn't always the case of course, but the general populace was brought up this way. So the considerations tend to go more in that direction. Instead of here in the US, where the individual tends to be placed above the group. There are times where this is good and times where this is bad. And you need to balance one out with the other. The same way we need to here. My favorite example of this, is the story of how the CEO of Nintendo took a pay cut so that none of the workers would get laid off due to bad sales. That would be unheard of here. He also ate in the cafeteria along side the rest of the Nintendo staff. When asked why he was doing this, he said it wasn't the employee's fault that their sales were down. They made the great product that they were asked to make. And after a while, the Switch released and they were back in the game, better than ever. I feel like we need more of that kind of sentiment here sometimes. Sorry for the long paragraph, but I hope that helped to explain some things.

Very good explanation. Thanks, My Friend, this is just the type of thing I was looking for. :-)

getting of work on a regular basis mught be hard in Japan. But not helping your wife after you've left her alone for so long once you do get off is inexuseable in my book
