Well, it definitely appears that Gohan is back in fighting shape! Even if he's not quite up to dad's level, he's still come along far enough under Big Green's tutelage to be a major force in the tournament!

to think in Dbz time its probably been about 26/27 years since Goku Met Roshi at this point and that would make Goku Nearly 40 ontop of that Gohans only like Half Gokus age cause he got Married when he was around 16/17 then 5 years passed and Dbz Started and Gohan was already about....five at the time...I think...my time may be a bit off....I didnt watch Dbz last year like I usually do...ill have to just settle for watching it twice this year

I love that little smirk Vegeta has when he senses Gohan fighting Goku. Ever since the Cell Saga, he's had a lot of respect for Gohan's power. Before both the U6 tournament and the Zeno Expo, he was the one that suggested Gohan as a fighter, after all. Also, about the beating each other up thing, I can't remember if they really address it, but even without taking Senzu Beans into account, they could always just Instant Transmission to Dende for some instant healing.

This was the first battle where Goku and Gohan fought man to man, and not as father vs son, i think that's why Gohan was so serious and it was so important to him Goku fought with all his might and didn't hold back (even though Goku's full power obviously knocked him out in no time). Also to be fair they have senzu beans and Goku has learned to control the SSB Kaio-Ken since his battle with Hit so they'll be back to full health in no time

Oh and also the form Gohan was talking about with taking his own path and such, is the Ultimate Form or "Mystic" form with black hair and white aura. This is the form Gohan used when he fought Buu after the Supreme Kai awakened his power. Gohan had lost this power due to not training, but now re-awakened it thanks to Piccolo's training

Poor Tien though, he just keeps getting the shit kicked out of him, i get the sense the writers really don't like Tien :(

Gohan's Ultimate form is the white Aura he needs to train it more. In dragon ball z this form was stronger than Gokus SS3 form and really was only beatable by vegito or a Super Buu that absorbed gohan to take that form lol. Going super saiyan on top his form does nothing for him so super saiyan is just a pre ultimate form now. So he wants to build his form till it surpasses something like SSG of SSBlue. Basically the form =s unlimited potential

Also Senzu beans = this fight doesnt tire them out and since they cant use them in the fight they dont have to ration them.

If rumors are correct and a new series picks up after dbs browly, then i hope they show gohan surpassing mystic and give him a unique level up. Perhaps have him dabble in god ki, but in his own way.

Yeah but they could’ve made it look a little cooler like blue lightning or a glow on the inside it just looks like his regular aura I feel like in z it was more distinct. In Super it looks identical to his base form aura

That would just be more bad storytelling. God Ki is only obtainable by pure saiyens. And besides he doesn't need a new form Ultimate Gohan is literally just Gohans max potential limiters unlocked all he needs to do is actually build himself up. This is exactly the point of gohan saying he wont try to get power through SSJ or other SSJ forms.

Which is why when Z events start they limit the number of Senzu Bean they have access to. Like in the Demon King Piccolo arc there is like a bucket full of them but once we hit the Saiyan arc they only got like, a handful to give out.
