I love the moral conundrums presented in this show! Ed has admirable principles, but is there a point where those principles become too much of a risk of death and pain for himself and those who are closest to him? Kimblee certainly is pushing to have himself be the ultimate test of this question.

TO KILL OR PAY THE CONSEQUENCES OF NOT KILLING! - FMAB #41

Yeah man, it's all down hill from here. to borrow from Gob Bluth, "I've made a huge mistake..."

I think Ed is ALOT like Spiderman. Spidermans gimmick is despite all the hardships and struggles he refuses to fall from his morals and kill despite the added struggles on him because of it. Spidermans villains also happen to be good to normal people who when they get power instead of being like him they fall to their struggles and start using their power to kill steal ect because it eases their struggles in life.

I just love the inner conflicts and morality of this show. It has so many great characters and it really makes us understand and feel for even the tiniest background characters. And then of course there are Ed and Al who value human life more than almost any other character in the show. And they are willing to pay the consequences for that. Shure it would’ve probably been easier to just take Kimblee out, but Ed chooses to try and capture him (and once again we see that Kimblee isn’t actually that useful in a close combat situation because of his ranged fighting style) and this "mercy" has dire consequences for him. But he accepts that and he even shows more mercy when he rescues the chimeras, similar to Al in the previous episode. I just love how they seem to recognize human live in different forms, be it chimeras, just a soul in an armor (like Barry and 66) or even in a philosophers stone. This will get more important later. Also how cool is the scene where Ed heals himself? He’s such an awesome dude and it really shows his alchemic genius. Using his own life and energy to heal his wounds and thereby shortening his lifespan. Also I love the idea of Al's existence being tied to Ed’s life. As if the two weren’t close enough... And finally can I just say how hyped I am for the next episodes? The promised day is not that far away and every episode from this point on is gonna be epic (not that the last 41 haven’t been xD) Lastly let me say I really really enjoy your reactions! I’ve followed about 7 or 8 reactors through this series and you’re one of my top 3. I really enjoy it, because you have a different approach to it and it’s really refreshing. And I really like your fatherly-ish love for Al. The boy really needs a hug. :)

If they had found that stone a few moments earlier, that would of been great for Edward

PKKite

Remember earlier Ed / Al said they wouldnt use a stone to get their bodies back. Not sure about this situation thou.

Thanks for the kind words, Anna! I'm enjoying this series SO much! As you said, the moral conundrums and the powerful characters make this absolutely fascinating to watch!

This series is as good as it gets. So, I'm sorry to say this Curtis, but all the other anime you watch from here on are not gonna be as good as this one. It's all downhill from here.

It seems you don't care about ed compared to Al haha

It was explained in this episode about the "prophets" that taught alchemy in Shing and in Amestris today. An immortal being with golden hair and golden eyes went both ways, Hohenheim went to Shing and thought them Medicinal alchemy and Father went to Amestris and taught them Military alchemy. The legend and the history of this series are so intricate that you can't help but love it.

SpazBoysComedy

Interesting... I'm not sure what I've done to give that impression. Al is my favorite character in the series so far, but I actually have a lot of affection for Ed.

You know I've never sat down and thought about it before. One of the things that always kind of grated me about this series was that the brothers absolutely refused to kill. Which when I first read through the Manga seemed like just a cheap way to make them "the good guys" but now that I think about it. There's a perfectly good character reason for them to value human life. It's because they both almost lost their lives in what could be (in an understated way) considered a dumb accident. As a result it gives them a lot of empathy towards all human life. It took me a second time around to finally realize that. Such a simple thing and I missed it, glad I got another chance to realize it.

At the end of the day, this episode shows how naive Ed is. He still is just a child and doesn't understand that if someone is trying to kill you, then it might be justified to kill them first.

Antiquity

I believe the writer of the manga created this scene after she had given birth or something of the sort.

Fmab has no bad episodes, no bad characters and every scene builds something. It gets better and better

One thing I really like about this show is how serious wounds actually are. In other animes the characters can be knocked through buildings, cough up gallons of blood, and then the next second be in peak condition kicking ass. Amidst all the supernatural powers in this show I love how the humans are still just humans.

Miasimon

You can really see that in Mustang's hand. He still has the wound from when he carved a transmutation circle into it. In most other animes, that would would be gone by the end of the episode.

I’m so happy Curtis is enjoying fmab this much. I’m looking forward to his thoughts when everything is said and done, 🙂

When you realize Ed, Al, and Hohenheim are the last scions of an entire race.
