Finally, a 'clip show' episode that's equally confusing for fans and newcomers. This episode is very fun to watch after you've already seen the series, so I recommend a re-watch after the final episode. Also after the final episode: the bloopers (available on YouTube). Don't watch them early, though, they're spoilery as hell!

Damn the years have not been kind to Granny Pinako. It's a wonder her and Hohenheim were old drinking buddies if this happens every time he gets drunk. Dreams like that are enough to turn a man off booze.

When I re-watched the series, this episode makes more sense.

The little girl who asked him to dance with her in the beginning was a younger version of his wife. You also saw the teenage version and adult version talk to him of course. A confusing, yet beautiful episode. All will make sense in time though. Can't wait for the next one!

This is definitely an episode you should schedule yourself to rewatch once you've finished the series - the retrospective look at it should give you a lot of "oh yeah wow shit" moments.

I like using the arrow keys to repeatedly hear the t and sh sounds at the end of your words before the episode starts. Very satisfying.

As others said, it'll make more sense later on with more context. But to put it simply yes the episode was very much Hohenheim talking with parts of himself and the dealing with the memories he has with some fascinating implications that are for you to think about. The episode also serves as a good excuse to give you a reminder of the journey so far, what they're fighting for and what it all means going forward into the coming episodes. On another note, as you've seen so far, eyes play quite a big part in the symbolism of the show, between the Ishbalans and the military and even other things, it's an interesting theme for the story that I suggest just keeping in the back of your mind when watching.
