I love how this show takes even small characters and give them at lest 1 WIN.

As good as I understand, what they say in every opening: you can't transmute people because there is no price to human life (soul). The only thing that violates this is Philosopher stone. After this episode they revealed that the main ingredient for it is human life (probably soul). Since human life is the most expensive thing, you can create everything with the stone (there probably is a limit, but who knows). And the soul is the most important part because as we know, soul can be bound to a suite of armor (Al) and later the actual body can be restored (maybe?). These were my thought after watching this episode a few days ago. Let's see how it actually turns out!

You can transmute people but you can't bring them back from the dead if I remember right. They said that the philosopher stone bypassed the law of equivalent exchange but it's not true. Human souls have a price, which is why with a philosopher stone you can do anything as long as it doesn't run out of power (human souls). If you create a philosopher stone by sacrificing 5 humans, you can perform an action that is worth 5 human souls, not more because if you do the philosopher stone will break like in the beginning with the priest: the law of equivalent exchange.

It's not that rushed, I found the pacing of the first to be a bit slow, plus it had plenty of filler to pad it out up to this point

Curtis, be sure to watch after the endings - there are occasionally scenes after - btw, the openings and endings don't have spoilers until the final opening - they are much more symbolic compared to Naruto

by Human life im sure they mean Human souls since as Ed said theres no material equivalent to a human soul which is why they lost their body parts while trying to bring their mother back cause they had nothing worth her soul...fulled with souls they can use the stone to make alchemy with no material since the soul is worth so much they can pretty much defy the laws of physics as they wish which means the stone is basically a battery

Man just you wait. the background behind the philospher stone and the whole show unwinds is AMAZING. i literally believe this is in the definite top 5 best anime series! also hunterxhunter is up there! mirai nikki made me cry in the end a few years ago and it was the only anime that ever has so far. so i throw it up there also! actually... all animes are my favorite xD
