Aw, did you miss when Bakugo said that Ochaco wasn't frail at 9:02? Not that I blame you, I wish they didn't put such a good line immediately after the punch line of a joke.

Evren

The scene where Ochaco calls her dad always gets to me man.

I doubt you'll remember but icy-hots name is Todoroki.

I think with Bakugo, Izuku has always been defenceless something that could always "be crushed" in Bakugo's words and in his own little world he is just great and everyone else just isn't and seeing what Bakugo percieves to be the incarnation of a victim rise up and no longer need protecting threatens the foundation of Bakugo's idea of what a hero is being that a hero is someone who always wins and everyone else always loses while Izuku has done literally nothing wrong his concern for Bakugo's safety in their childhood made him a villian in his mind as he no longer fell within the strong or the weak cause here's this weak person offering help when backugo feels like the glory of heroism only belongs to the strong and the weak need to shut up and be saved.

"I just want to watch a good fight" well, let me tell you... This next fight won best fight of the year in last years Crunchyroll Anime Awards for a reason

TheLurker

anyway bakugo/izuku conversation is best handled by this guy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uje1JX2BIx4

Yea, that's why I give characters nicknames; as kinda placeholders until I can get their real names to stick. :-)

Anonymous

I'm not sure if you noticed, but after kacchan's giant explosion, he got excited and called uraraka by her actual name, instead of the nicknames he uses for everybody else. That's one of the coolest parts of his character in my opinion, how he has his own ways of acknowledging and respecting his opponents.

That vid perfectly describes (at least) Season 1 Bakugo and his relationship with Midoriya, in this tournament you can see Kacchan getting his shit together ever so slightly, as in acknowledging Ochaco's strength in this match for example

Anonymous

That scene even back in Season 1 after the combat training, where Bakugo basically cries at Midoriya how he couldn't disagree with Yaoyorozu's statements about how stupidly he acted, and how he realized he couldn't beat Todoroki sums up Bakugo quite well. As in even back then, while he HATES it, he's got the strength of character to break from that illusion of "Nobody's better than me". That might be a redeeming value, since he can accept that, suck it up and maybe grow for the better

Brother E

Fun Fact: The line where Mineta says “He always knew Bakugo was a sadist” because he’s beating Ochako is a somewhat 4KIDS revision. The original line Mineta says is “ I always knew Bakugo swung that way!” implying he’s a homosexual.

Bakugo reminds me of vegeta where he only recognizes the strong. He doesnt even call the people in the class the right name unless he has respect for them. Which is why he calls ochaco "pink cheeks" but later on in the fight he respects her for fighting head on and challenging him upfront and calls her by her real name. He aslo says that nothing about her is frial when he goes back to the stands to sit back with the class and make fun of him for hurting a "frail girl"

Anonymous

Curtis, you should realize that you and Bakugo have something in common. You come up with nicknames for characters to help with your memory. Bakugo does the same thing (though I’m not sure if he really has big memory problems like you... or any memory problems at all) EX- Deku, Icy-Hot, Etc.

You said that the chunin exams are different because you learned about characters in the fight, but don't forget about mind control boy. Also, I can't wait for the episode tomorrow. Your reactions are the best!

Naruto has a trend of showing backstory DURING a fight throughout the whole series

Anonymous

I've finally caught up from Episode 1 til now. Phew, those were some entertaining reactions!

Alot of people see Naruto similarities in this series, but that's probably because MHA is like the beginning of the next generation of Manga rising to the top in JUMP just as Naruto, Dragonball, One Piece etc. did before. We're now dealing with Authors who grew up with Manga like Naruto just as us fans did, but what's wonderful about that is we get a mix of familiarity but also MHA's author has the knowledge and skill to know to avoid the pitfalls a lot of those previous series often fell into with pacing, plot holes and so on. So it'll be extremely interesting to watch how MHA continues to evolve.

Yes! It's like a breath of fresh air to not have to put up with 5+ episodes where the exact same thing happens and cliffhangers that no one cares about. I think Curtis complimented the pace too, IIRC. It's very noticeable when you're watching Naruto at the same time.

I still get chills when Bakugo yells Uraraka's name right before she passes out. As a guy who doesn't bother remembering his classmate's names or quirks, it really shows that he acknowledges her as a worthy opponent.

Ochaco talking to her dad never fails to get me tearing up. God damn this show is fucking great

Anthony Mosher

Not sure if you caught it during this because you were making a comment about the arm wrestling match, but they were giving Kacchan a hard time about picking on Uraraka saying that he has no mercy for a frail girl...and he whispered so that no one could hear saying something along the lines of "she's not the frail one" or "she's not that frail". He definitely acknowledges her as strong like the teacher said when he called out the other pros and I am glad they made that point, because even though he is a very hard character to root for, he does have respect for his fellow classmates' strengths, and he has great instinct when it comes to not ever underestimating someone.

damn no reaction to bakugos line about uraraka
