What I love about Mazinkaiser is it's very simple, a standard MOTW plot, but it's short, concise and more importantly, it doesn't get too full of itself. It gives you Mazinkaiser, shows it's power and intimidation. Just got done with Grendizer U, and man, that was an example of a remake with it's head up it's own ass. It tried way too hard to be deep, but it sucked. To give an idea, imagine Mazinkaiser, but the pilot was a whiny bitch. Imagine it had Code Geass drama, but shittier and of course very little Mazinkaiser in favor of drama with subpar fights. It says a lot when Kouji was supporting protagonist in it, yet he was far more enjoyable, and the few fights Mazinger was in were far more badass than Grendizer's. It's crazy how Grendizer was shown to be far more powerful than Kaiser (capable of destroying planets/had the energy of a star), yet Kaiser was more imposing/intimidating.
