And we enter the, in my opinion, worst arc of the animated Baki. I like the idea but it wasn’t done well. It’s supposed to be a rival to Baki, who in my opinion is only about as strong as Baki before the Prisoners arrived, but Ali just kind of isn’t likable.

I actually don’t hate the way Baki is acting. Like in the last season, he isn’t going to force his love or prove his love. He knows he loves her. But if she doesn’t want to be with him (unlike his dad who would force himself on the girl) Baki isn’t

Almost exactly what I was thinking. Baki is very conscious of the fact that the power dynamic between him and Kozue is skewed in his favor, so he's very careful not to take advantage of that. At the same time, he's also become more than a little arrogant, feeling that his father is the only meaningful opponent left for him. Granted, his last three fights have done nothing to disprove this notion as they were all squashes (he wrecked Sikorski and Mr. Poison at the same time, Mr. Poison 2 got squashed after he cured Baki and the Grand Kaio's son lasted less than 10 seconds, not even getting to make a single attack).

The relationship and romance stuff in Baki is really awkward and this arc has the worst of it. Also they end up fumbling Ali Jr by the end. Thankfully after this arc there’s pretty much zero romance and it only focuses on fighting, martial arts and more ridiculous facial expressions.

For me, the romantic elements are written so insanely awkwardly that I find myself with no interest or concern with their relationship anyway. I just have a chuckle at the awkward moments and get hyped for the next fight.

I can't wait til you see the other real world people who make it into this show (especially one particular communist a lot of people here might be too young to recognize...). Luckily they Ali Sr. stays in the show after this and seems peak & prime without drool or anything. Also not to bring spoilers into this, but Ali's hayday was the 50s-60s, and this is at least the 90s getting into different presidencies next arc... the timeline's making Christian's comment about Jr.'s age A LOT worse💀
