Okay, I gotta admit that, when you're 144 years old, faking your own death is a very believable ruse!

So I have two feelings here 1. Kaku is right in the sense that he was fighting Yujiro. Yujiro has repeatedly been shown to dominate everyone he fights, including governments and armies. Kaku was trying to make a point that martial arts can overcome any enemy, allowing one to survive. Kaku is so far the only person in the series capable of hanging with Yujiro to the extent he did. The fact he’s alive (and not disfigured) is a miracle in itself. To put it more simply he stopped Yujiro from winning by eliminating the concept of losing. 2. He bitched out and played dead. I understand the reason behind it, but even to this day Kaku playing dead still kind of ruins this moment a little for me, as Yujiro won the fight. But he can’t claim it.

The old man fooling Yujiro with his feign death move, and Yujiro just kinda accepting it after he found out and going "ok, he got me there" and then having a casual conversation with him at the end feels like actual character growth for Yujiro. Granted, he respects strength and having a 144 year old go toe to toe with him and come out alive is pretty deserving of respect. This is probably where the Baki anime peaks for me personally, there are some absolutely ridiculous fights coming up but this tournament arc and the Yujiro vs Emperor fight is my favorite.

Just remember the reason China “Won” was because Yujiro invalidated his team’s wins.

Devil Owner

I agree with you Curtis...while Kaku did come out of it intact, I still give the victory (imo) to Yojiro. He stopped his own punch, at the end of the day. Credit where it's due to the old master though... he did have some serious moves.

The old man was right, martial arts did win that fight, because the only victory you can draw from fighing Yujiro is to survive lol. How many people can claim that they've managed to go against him and live? Less than a handful to be sure. It follows what they've been saying from the start, martial arts is a way for the weak to go up against the strong and keep standing. The series, as ridiculous and basic in its premise as it is, is still adult to enough to say theres more than one way to win, and whether its a bear or Yujiro Hanma, if you live through the encounter you can safely say you won out that day because no coffins needed to be filled, as fighting Yujiro is about the same as fighting a wild animal, maybe worse lol

SpazBoysComedy

Nah, disagree. I don't believe you can ever call faking your death to escape defeat a true "victory". No mater how many ways they try to spin it.

Lewd Angel

I think you missed the point, it wasn't a 'true' victory, he didn't beat him, but he did manage to make Yujiro not finish him off. Like i said, the only victory you can hope for when facing a Hanma is to not die, and thats pretty tough when you're 140+

WHOLESOME DEUS

Old man pulled a possum...cut blame the old man for that one. Idk how Yujiro stopped himself, me on a full swing would have followed through complete until his face caves in.

SpazBoysComedy

Ah, because I don't agree, I "missed the point." Cool spin. The ridiculous concept they were trying to sell was not lost on me, it was just idiotic. I completely renounce the concept of a victory of any sort being gained by simply not dying. Yujiro won the fight as soon as the old man decided to play dead. If you want to buy the spin of "I won because I survived" good for you. I think it's asinine.

Lewd Angel

My brother in christ when someone tells you that you missed their point, that is not an attempt at trying to spin your take, it means something you said implied you didn't really get what they were trying to say. My comment was made in half jest because the fact of the matter is, there was no way for the old man to beat Yujiro in any sense of the word, the only victory he could draw was to not die, and the only way he could even say it was a victory was by calling upon the point of martial arts that they've kept reiterating on in the show. Idk why you decided to get hyperdefensive over the semantics of what the word 'victory' means here when all i was doing was making remark on how silly of a concept it is for a 144 year old man to win out against a Hanma by pretending to die, but go off i guess

SpazBoysComedy

If you think that was hyper defensive, you don’t know me at all. A difference of opinion doesn’t have to be a result of an inability to grasp a simple concept; it can be a simple rejection of a concept.

Lewd Angel

Getting weird about not being able to get over and insulting a 'concept' by calling it idiotic and asinine, especially in a conversation that wasn't even really arguing said concept, is the very definition of getting defensive. Im glad you 'grasped the concept', you certainly didn't grasp what i was saying though, because the gist of what i was trying to say is "Hey look, the old guy won out by pretending to fuckin die because he considers yujiro to be a damn wild animal, aint that pretty silly" meanwhile for some reason you've just been going "No! It wasn't a true victory! I reject that! I disgree! Its idiotic!", like ok Dio, reject your humanity all you want, doesn't make this conversation any less weird

SpazBoysComedy

Once again, untrue. There is nothing defensive about calling something “idiotic” or “asinine”. Those are simple observations. I will further assert that this conversation is also idiotic and asinine. Want to continue it? I’m in the 3rd day of no Internet service, so this is a rare occasion where I have time to spend on pointless stupidity.

Lewd Angel

If you had any intention of actually having a conversation instead of double, triple and quadrupling down on an argument that doesn't exist while attempting to 'one up' someone who wasn't interested in an argument in the first place by going on about how idiotic the conversation you threw off the rails is, i'd be happy to. But the attitude makes it pretty clear that'd be, just like this conversation, idiotic and asinine. The only question is why i ever bothered trying to explain myself to someone who clearly wasn't gonna listen to begin with lol
