It's mentioned in the novel that Rudy has a ridiculous amount of mana compared to most mages. So he's capable of using a lot more magic/larger scale magic than most, combine that with the ability to cast without having to chant the spell and he's ridiculously strong. His biggest issues are mental/emotional. He's still got baggage from his previous life, and then additional issues he's picked up in this life. A lot of anime have characters get over their traumas with like 1 or 2 episodes of plot development but Rudy is stuck dealing with them throughout most of this story, which is more realistic.

You know the phrase "My dogs are barking?" Meaning your feet hurt. That's why Rudeus is talking to his legs. He's named them Tindalos and Baskervilles after after two famous Hounds of fiction. The Hound of Tindalos from the Cthulhu mythos and The Hound of the Baskervilles, the titular dog of the famous Sherlock Holmes Story. My guess is he named his arms Hulk and Heracles for the same reason.
