Are you watching these with subtitles on your end? In my experience, watching it with subtitles made it easier to follow the many names and terms this show will have. Of course, it's up to you and your preference, but just a suggestion for anyone who's not familiar with this show and Game of Thrones.

The Iron Throne is made from the "1,000" blades of Aegon The Conqueror's enemies that he made kneel and unite the 7 kingdoms. The exact number is unkown and the throne is smaller in GOT than it is here. HoD has a more book accurate depiction of the throne, but Aegon built it with discomfort in mind; nearly every one of his heirs cut themselves while they sat on the throne. Aegon was vicious, but he was wise; in his mind a King should never feel comfortable, he should always be alert and aware and understand the weight of being a leader. The method of punishment is really harsh for people who are caught committing crimes. Bad touch = castration, stealing = hand cut off, murder = execution. Lots of eye for eye stuff XD The alternative is called "Taking the black" which means you're stripped of all legal rights to anything your family owns and are sworn to never take a wife or have any kids aka celibacy. Most choose to take their punishment as Taking the Black is more or less a death sentence as you'll likely die to the cold of the north or be killed by people known as Wildlings. The Night's Watch used to be a group of badasses, but now its more like a gang of disgruntled criminals whom society has chosen to reject. Daemon (The Leader of the goldcloaks / the uncle) is a badass, but he's also a cold hearted SOB. He's probably my favorite character in HoD. Visarys, The King, HATED having to do that to his wife. I felt terrible for him and his wife. Especially since it didn't matter in the end. The Maestor(Guy who told the king to make the tough call) was not BSing the King though; his wife was dead regardless, but there was a chance to save the baby. Daemon is an ass, but he was genuine in his grief for his brother's loss. Otto Hightower; the guy who thinks Daemon is vile, is such a scumbag; bro takes advantage of his best friend and uses his daughter to curry leverage against Daemon. You can see how quickly all of his own council placed their bids on the heir, but Viserys saw through them. This show is masterclass story telling. Your likes and hates for characters is going to bounce all over the place with both this show and GoT.
