I think Hachi would have considered buying Pork Bowl as livestock, but would have then realized that he has no realistic way of taking care of him since he only had the money from the summer work (like that one teacher mentioned). Also buying him as meat would give him closure, while being realistic about how livestock are treated. Loved Hachi's growth over the season.

Agreed. This was both sad and kinda cool. Sad because there was no workable way for him to keep Pork Bowl as a pet, but it was cool that he still had that connection that made him need to have his own way of saying goodbye... And yea, Hachi is an awesome character!
