Precht, Yuri, and Warrod went along with the Zera illusion both because they're nice people, but also because they felt terrible for Mavis. They did not want her to realize Zera was an illusion, because they feared how traumatizing that would be for her. However, Yuri felt it was time to tell her the truth. If you re-watch the episodes you'll see that no one but Mavis interacts with Zera. Sadly, Mavis was unable to save her when Blue Skull raided Tenrou. Also, the spell Mavis casted was the progenitor version of Fairy Law. Only three people have known to perfect the spell and that's Makarov, Laxus, and Hades with his varient of it known as Grimoire Law.

There are a lot of things you pick up once you know the twist like in the last episode when Zera thanks Mavis for listening to her because none of the guys ever listen to her. But whats ironicly funny is that we witness her death in the first episode of the ark but when we see her alive in the seccond episode 7 years later and everyone has the same reaction, like oh she must have survived and we just accept it. Up till now Fairy Tail kept tricking us by flirting with character deaths, they lead us to believe someone is dead only to later reveal that they are alive. This time they managed to get us by doing the opposite, they actually killed someone off for once but had us beliving they were alive all along. To think of all the times they used a fake character death as a twist and now this time the character being alive is the fake out.

I wouldn't call Laxus' use of the Law "perfect" (Or maybe it was and it just didn't work for the reason Fried pointed out)
