Hey guys, some of you may know this news from other Patreon creators. This time I'll be joining the wagon. Apple is forcing us to adapt to their IOS platform. Beginning in November, Apple would be taking 30% of any subscription a patron pledged, if they signed up on iOS (iPhone or iPad).

To be honest, I totally disagree with this kind of policy. This is just greedy! money money and money! I wonder how Steve Jobs responds to this if he's still alive. I still haven't decided yet and I prefer to just skip the entire option. But who am I, I'm just an ordinary creator following the rules.

Patreon is also removing its two original billing models, which many creators still rely on. We can no longer use pay-per-creation or first-of-the-month billing, which has always been available on Patreon. As creators, we were asked to change our business model because Apple does not allow payments to be processed in those two ways.

Patreon gave me until November to switch billing models or until November 2025. If I decide to keep the current billing model until 2025, I won't be able to acquire any new supporters from the IOS platform. I will see what can be done by that time.

Well, I hope you guys didn't use the Patreon apps from iOS.

So, if I get this right, you are being forced to either loose money or squeeze money out of your subs, but you get no improvement of any kind. They just slap a 30% fee on whatever transaction you conduct with anyone using IOS as the place from where they sign up? What about us Android users? Do we get slapped with a 30% increase to keep it equal across platforms? Or will this result in a two-tier systems which will undoubtedly affect you in a less than favorable way?

What to say ? Coming from Apple, that does not surprise me... I am also far from being a Steve Jobs fan... He was awful with his dev teams and while he made his advertising in 1984 showing PC to be Orwell-like, he made Apple a closed ecosystem in which even the smallest piece of plastic is outrageously expensive... Apple kept this despicable business model... I never used any Apple device... And I do not intend to buy any...
