I don't mind such character interactions either. Even when it's someone being fragile, making mistakes, etc. it makes it all seem much more real. Subaru is just some dude, and though he has more knowledge and emotional intelligence compared to other people in the world, besides that, he's pretty average, probably even below average because of his lack of magic and whatnot, and I find that really cool tbh, because it makes navigating through problems very different to the conventional main character that can fight their way through just about anything.
