Ther is a reason Why Rosswal beat up Subaru instead of Killing him, He knows Subaru can Restart, But he does not know What Triggers it, so he is beating him to force him to restart (not knowing that he needs to kill him). That is why Subaru remarked that his actions made no sense in forcing to restart him.

Roswaal's theme evolved this episode. Gives me chills every time. And man, the title card too, happening right at the end there with the kiss when Subaru is dying... "The Taste of Death." That shocked me the first time I saw it with how well executed it was. Anyway, no, the director's cut was not that much different in terms of content from the initial run. It just had the Blu-ray fixes, a few missing scenes, and other minor stuff. But yeah, you will get answers and the plotlines presented will mostly resolve themselves, even some of the ones from the first season. The way they do it makes this my favorite anime ever. You probably won't like it THAT much haha but it will be satisfying!
