Fun fact the 1st 4 episodes while separate here in the west was actually released as one long Movie length ep in Japan.

I absolutely agree with you both regarding subs vs. dubs, both because it helps me follow the story easier and because dubs tend to change things a bit too much sometimes (I also almost always find the choice of voices in dubs to not be appropriate for the characters). The only exception I make to that is for Ghost Stories, because it's meant to be a stupid dub and the jokes are funny (though people nowadays would probably say they're "offensive"). Edited to add : Elves in Lord of the Rings are basically immortal. Elrond, for example, is a major part of the LOTR movies and was already there when Sauron was first defeated, which happened 3000 years before Frodo received the ring. They can even go live in the Undying Lands, governed by powerful beings that grant them actual immortality.

Dubs nowadays are much much improved to the point where I sometimes prefer dubs of certain shows. In general though I do prefer subs simply because I like to experience whatever media in their original language whatever the language may be.
