Hey y'all. I'm figuring out some new things for the commissions this time around and I want to take advantage of Patreon a bit more while making things easier for everyone. Based on feedback from the last round, it seems like I need to offer more options for commissions in terms of length, editing, style, etc, but that requires more customized pricing.

Rather than have 25 different tiers (oh man, I'm getting anxious even thinking about that!), I thought it would be easier if existing Patrons could stay in the tiers they're currently in and just use an additional Custom Pledge to pay for the commission once the details had been worked out.

The issue that causes is basically 'crowd control' - how do I limit the number of commissions when my internal Patron numbers aren't counting toward a specific tier limit? That's where being a Patron will have even more advantages. To make this work, I would open commissions to existing Patrons ($10 tier and down) on April 1st, and then to the general public with a dedicated tier on April 2nd. The dedicated tier would then be limited to as many spots as I have left after the Patrons get 'first dibs.' The $25 tier, of course, would still have first access on March 27th. This is the only way I can think of to make this work and still keep my number of commissions reasonable.

Because this wouldn't be a dedicated tier anymore where the payment for the tier is the payment for everything, whatever you paid for your current tier would be deducted from the cost of your commission, so you're not paying me for both. For example, if you're in the $10 tier, and your commission is $100, you would just pay me the difference, $90, because you've already paid for your tier. This just seems like the most fair option.

The other advantage is that no one has to shift around their tiers once the commission is received. So you wouldn't have to change back to whatever non-commission tier you're in, you would already be there and things would continue as normal. Changing things around is always an option, of course, but it wouldn't be mandatory for existing Patrons.

The Commission-only tier would be a $1 tier, mainly to reserve the spot, and would not include any other tier rewards. The commission would still be paid for via Custom Pledge in the amount determined by the request and pricing structure.

My question to you, my wonderful Patrons, is whether or not this would make commissions a better experience for you than the other way? Do you prefer to stay in your current tier and just pay the additional cost for the commission, or do you like the idea of a separate Commission tier for everyone, not just non-Patrons? Vote in the poll and let me know your thoughts!

The poll will be open until March 25th at 11:59pm EST.

Thanks, everyone!
