Chapter 4 = A New Arrival

As Daisy exits the gas station store she’s still a bit shaken up by the crazy encounter that just went down. That girl had actually seemed pretty serious about what she’d been saying. Was this school, this Oasis Academy actually as nice as her parents had been claiming it was? What if some of the things that girl had been saying was true? Maybe going to this new school wasn’t such a good idea after all.

“Oh there you are Daisy.” Her blonde haired Mother said. “We’ve been waiting for you.” With a small smile on her face, the woman took the back of snacks from Daisy and brought it to the car.

“Everything okay sweetie?” Her redheaded Mother said, noticing her Daughter’s downcast expression.

“Uh, I don’t know... Did you guys see that? That girl just now? The one who was yelling?” Her redheaded Mother nodded solemnly and opened her mouth to speak before her blonde haired Mother spoke first.

“Oh yes we did see that confrontation, that girl seemed like a bit of a brat.” Daisy was a bit surprised at her Mother’s harsh tone.

“I... I don’t know. She said she was from the Oasis Academy and that she was trying to get away from it. She warned me not to go there.” To Daisy’s surprise, her blonde haired Mother started to giggle a little. She looked at her redheaded Mother, who avoided eye contact with her.

“Oh Daisy, she was just a runaway.” Her blonde haired Mother continued. “When that teacher drove up, she asked us if we’d seen the girl and I was the one who told her she was inside.”

“You did?”

“Yes dear, the woman said the girl had run away from a field trip the school was having and she had tracked her down just to make sure that she was safe.” Her Mother leaned in close to Daisy. “I think she was a bit of a trouble maker hehe. But don’t worry honey, that’s nothing you have to worry about. We know that you’re going to be a model student at your new school.” The woman leans down and kisses her daughter on the forehead, before climbing back into the driver’s seat. “Now come on you two! We don’t have much further to go before we make it to the school ourselves!” Daisy glances once more at her other Mother, who only offers a small weak smile and a nod before getting into the passenger seat. Daisy stands there, concern flooding over her even more than it was before. She prays that what she’s feeling is nothing but nerves over a new place, and gets into the car.

The drive only lasts for another 20 minutes or so before the trio finally reach their destination. Daisy tried to distract herself during the rest of the car ride to her new home/school, but she couldn’t get that girls’ words out of her mind. The way the woman grabbed her and pulled her to the car, the way that girl seemed helpless once the woman showed up, those strange undergarments that the girl had been wearing, and worst of all... that wink. That strange wink the woman had directed right at Daisy, as if she knew something that she didn’t. It wasn’t very long before the banter between her Mother’s was interrupted with something new.

“There it is! We’re here!” Her blonde Mother cried out. “Look how beautiful it is!” Daisy sat up from where she’d been leaning and peered out the car windows. She had to admit, the place was beautiful; not at all like the prison she’d started imagining. The campus itself looked more like a large castle than your typical college campus. Several tall buildings stretched towards the sky surrounded by luscious gardens and even a large fountain right through a large majestic archway in front of a circular parking lot. The archway stretched over the entire top of the main entrance and in big letters read the words: “Welcome to The Oasis Academy”.

“It’s much bigger than I remember.” Her redheaded Mother said softly. Daisy looked at her questioningly. “In the brochures I mean, of course.” Her Mother quickly added, before getting out of the car. Daisy shook her head a little confused, before doing the same. She stepped onto the gravel road that formed a circle driveway in front of the school’s main gate. The building in front of them was huge; way more expansive than Daisy expected it to be. It all seemed to be part of one big building but it branched out into different directions once someone passed through the main gates.

“Oh hello there!” A friendly voice said. Daisy looked over to see a man who was probably about in his mid-30’s approaching them flanked by several students, male and female, who were dressed the same way that girl she’d seen earlier was. The man had a “Dr. Strange” type goatee going on, Daisy thought as the man shook both her Mother’s by the hand. “Hello there young lady,” The man said as he finally addressed Daisy directly. “What a pleasure to make your acquaintance.” Daisy accepted the man’s handshake and found herself blushing a little at how formal the handsome man was. He’d called her ‘Young Lady’, no one had called her that in years. The man flashed a bright white teethy grin at her. “My name is Dr. Saborio. I am one of the science teacher’s on campus.” Daisy held back a chuckle as she realized how close she had been with the name Dr. Strange. “Perhaps I’ll see you in one of my classes Daisy,” Dr. Saborio said with a soft nod. “For now, I must get back to my current students. Goodbye for now.” With a final nod to the trio, Dr. Strange himself walked away from them into the gardens on the left of the main building, flanked by each of his students, a group of at least 12, boys and girls.

Daisy eyed them all as they walked by. They appeared to be model students, just like her Mother had said. They were all in perfect uniform, they were all walking in a line, most of them were smiling... Daisy didn’t want to admit it, but they seemed a little, too perfect. As they walked past there seemed to be a strange air about them. What was that crinkling sound? A certain scent... what was it? Why did it remind her of her time as a babysitter?

“Let’s go honey,” Her redheaded Mother said, breaking her out of her thoughts as she pulled her suitcase out of the car. “We have to get you all settled in.”

“Mom, are there already classes going on? I thought the semester hadn’t started yet?”

“Summer classes,” Her blonde haired Mother answered. “This school has classes going on year round.” She explained.

“Oh,” Daisy said softly, wondering if she’d feel out of place coming into a school that was already in the swing of things.

Taking her suitcase Daisy followed her Mother’s to the main check in center. After several minutes of paperwork, Daisy was finally ready to head off to her dorm. She hugged her Mother’s goodbye as they headed back to their car.

“Be a good girl Daisy!” Her blonde haired Mother said to her, making the 18 year old blush a little bit.

Her redheaded Mother kissed her on the forehead. “Stay out of trouble, alright?” She said softly to her daughter. Daisy looked up at the woman confused once again. When had she ever gotten into that much trouble? What was her Mother worried about?

She stood there, feeling a little lonely suddenly with her bags as she waved her parents away one more time and watched them drive off. She turned back to the front gates of this enormous school. With a deep breath, she looked at her itinerary and headed towards her dorm with no idea what would be in store for her...
