The Election (Chapter 1) (Patreon)

Thinking back on it now, Mia really should have known better or seen some of the signs. It wasn’t like Amy had wanted to hang out with her much before then, in fact the two of them hadn’t been close for a long time. Two weeks only made so much of a difference after all.
Unfortunately for Mia, she knew that getting Amy on her side was the only way that she’d ever be in line for class President. The elections were only a few days away by now and Mia had been doing everything in her power to get as many people’s votes as she could manage.
The cheerleaders and jocks were easy, she was one of them after all. The goths and skaters were a little more difficult, she just had to promise them that if she would she’d make sure that none of her hall monitors would mess with their secret smoke breaks or tell them to get off their skateboards. The biggest “faction” that left her to deal with was the nerds. Mia hated to admit it, but her arch enemy Amy had clear pull in that regard. Being one of the few female “nerds” in the school, she had most of those twerps wrapped around her little finger. If Mia could just remind Amy of the old forgotten days where the two of them used to be friends, (Before Mia broke their friendship off to get popular.) then maybe she could get a good majority of the nerds to vote for her too.
So Mia had done what she needed to do. She’d started sucking up to her old friend. Talking to her a lot more than she had in years and even giving her almost a daily compliment. It was all going according to plan. Amy had even introduced her to a couple of new “friends”. Kids that Mia hoped wouldn’t remember that she had bullied them in the past.
She’d been doing this nice girl routine for almost 2 weeks now and it would all pay off soon. Elections were on Monday, and as soon as the votes were over Mia could go back to being herself and could stop pretending to be Amy’s friend.
“Hey Mia!” The extremely enthusiastic Amy said to her as she was trying to leave school on Friday. The girl was dressed sickeningly cute and childish as usual in stark contrast to Mia’s mature black clothes, dramatically dyed hair, and tattoos. The childish way she dressed was one of the things that Amy was often bullied for.
“Oh, uh... hey girl.” Mia responded, having to remind herself to keep up her nice girl façade for just a little bit longer. “What’s up?” Amy had a mysterious twinkle in her eye that was normally unusual for her.
“So, I know it’s kinda last minute, but you should come over for a slumber party on Saturday! I’ve been telling my Mom how we’ve become best friends again and she wants to see you too!”
Mia went a little hot in the face. A SLUMBER PARTY?! Was she serious? What were they, 6 years old?! “Ummm... I don’t know Amy. I have a lot of work I gotta get done this weekend. And I...”
“Oh come on Mia, you’ve got work to do every weekend.” She said, smirking at her. “Just one night, come over and have some fun like we used to.” She slipped a piece of paper into her hands before starting to walk away. “There’s the address just in case you forgot it. This’ll be our first slumber party of many in the future bestie!”
Mia was stunned at the girls’ stubbornness. “Wait, Amy... I don’t...”
“See you Saturday Mia!!!” The giggling girl said as she boarded her bus.

Mia was pretty pissed that the other girl had refused to listen to her. Having a slumber party with her was the last thing in the world she wanted to do this weekend. She was planning on spending it writing her speech for the election. She supposed she could do that on Sunday. She knew most people were going to vote for her anyways, it’s not like her speech really needed to be that good. If she had already secured the fact that she was going to win then a speech was basically just a formality, right?
The 18 year old let out an annoyed sigh as she walked up the steps Amy’s house Saturday evening. She just needed to get through this stupid slumber party and then her victory in the election would be all but assured.
“Hello! Welcome!” Amy cried out as she opened the door and let Mia in. She was wearing a very colorful and cutsie dress that reminded Mia of something that a toddler might wear to a formal evening. “Come in come in.” Amy said giggling.
She took Mia into the kitchen and re-introduced her to her Mother. “Well hello there dearie.” The large woman said, looking down at the petite Mia. “My goodness, you look just how I remember you! So adorable!” Mia could feel herself blushing as she politely shrugged. Part of her wanted to get angry and yell out how she was a grown woman and no one had called her adorable in years; but she reminded herself once again that she needed to be nice to Amy’s Mother as well.
“T-thank you Ma’am.” Mia said in her kindest guest voice.
“I’ll take those bags for you sweetie.” The woman said as she grabbed Mia’s bags and walked away with them. Amy’s Mom didn’t head towards the bedrooms though. Mia was about to ask her where she was taking it when Amy took her by the hand and led her to the basement where the two of them always used to play.
The next 3 hours were filled with activities that Mia could only describe as torture. They had a tea party, they watched “My Little Pony”, and they gave each other makeovers! Mia felt like she was having a sleepover with a 5 year old, and felt like she was gonna go crazy. Amy seemed to be having the time of her life though. Mia just had to keep reminding herself that this was all for the election. After this weekend was over she’d never have to hang out with Amy again.
“Girls!” Mia was brought out of her thoughts by Amy’s Mom calling for them. “Time to get ready for bed!”
Mia was a little shocked, “Huh?” She said looking up at the clock which read 9pm. “But it’s only nine?”
Amy was quickly putting away all of their tea party stuff. “9pm is bedtime silly, come on!” Amy rushed up the basement stairs.
“Maybe when we were 6...” Mia responded softly.
