Chapter 3 = A Little Girls’ Curse: Dafi hurried over to where the younger girl was still cursing and writhing on the ground furiously in the hay. She was struggling a little to stand up from where she’d landed when she’d fallen off of Joker. Meanwhile Joker was happily trotting around in the grass on the other side of the gate, clearly hoping to get a treat after the stunt he’d just performed.
Even though the girl didn’t deserve it after the stunt she’d pulled herself, Dafi’s initial concern was for the girls’ safety; despite her disobedience, she was her student after all. “Hey, are you alright?” She asked, holding out her hand to help the girl back to her feet. Violet responded in her typically bratty way by swatting her hand away.
“Get your hands away from me, I don’t need your help!” Violet rolled onto her knees to get out of the hay pile and pulled herself off the ground, brushing off her sparkly pink outfit. “It wasn’t my fault!” She yelled out immediately in a crude attempt to defend herself. Dafi took a deep breath to try to calm herself down, yelling at this girl wouldn’t do any good. She was the adult here, so she should act like it.
“Look Violet,” Dafi said sternly. “The thing you just did was very wrong. Joker is a huge living and breathing creature. He was trying to just do what you told him to, but you aren’t a trained rider. You could have gotten seriously hurt or hurt Joker in the process.” Violet’s expression got darker and darker as Dafi had spoken.
“Oh who cares?!” The girl yelled out angrily. “He’s just a big dumb stupid horse! He’s supposed to do what I say, but he wasn’t! Maybe he’s just broken or something. Too old to be any use anymore.” Violet’s own words made her chuckle as she looked at Joker trotting along. She had no reservations about blaming her stupidity on the large magnificent creature. Dafi could scarcely believe what the girl had said! She had called her beloved horse useless because she’d done something stupid and almost gotten hurt because of it. Dafi was normally a very level-headed person, but not when someone insulted her favorite horse!
“How dare you!” Dafi yelled out furiously, taking the young bratty rich girl by surprise for a moment. “Don’t you even think about blaming my wonderful horse! You were the one who was doing something she wasn’t supposed to be doing! If you had just listened like you were supposed to then that wouldn’t have happened!” The younger girl glared daggers at her.
“Well what’d you know anyways? You’re probably just an idiot too! You ride horses for a living, ooooohh big whoop! Why don’t you go out and get a new job like a grown up instead of spending your whole day with ponies?” Dafi could feel her cheeks blush a little red at the girls’ words. She had never had such an arrogant student before, and never had one talk to her like this before. The girl smirked at her, seeing that she’d hit a nerve. “Do you like spending your day with ponies? Are you actually just a little girl? That’s kinda cute honestly. Looks like someone didn’t wanna grow up out of her horsey phase.”
“What?? No, I just...”
“It’s okay sweetie, really. Some girls just grow up faster than others. You can stay here forever with your little ponies if you’d like. Meanwhile, I’m gonna go out and party and meet all sorts of hunky guys and get a real job like the adult I am.” Violet chuckled at Dafi as the older girl felt stunned for a few moments. She’d rarely had any students talk back to her like that in the past, but this girl had actually called her out on her admiration for horses and turned it around on her. Violet looked satisfied with her argument and sauntered off, “Whatever, I didn’t want to do this stupid lesson anyways. See ya never little girl!” She called, waving over her shoulder as she walked away.
Dafi could feel the anger boiling up inside of her. She wished with all her might that she had held it back, but she couldn’t. “You’re the little girl!” She cried out, pissed out. So much so that even Joker stopped hopping around and looked over at her. Violet stopped walking away from her and froze. “How dare you treat my horse and me this way. I’m not the one who was mean to an innocent animal! You’re the one who’s just a little girl here. You’re just a spoiled little brat rich girl who gets whatever she wants whenever she wants. I think you’re just a jerk and a spoiled little baby!”
Violet turned back towards Dafi with a strange look on her face. It was partly anger and partly contentedness. Dafi didn’t know how to explain it but the entire world around her seemed to suddenly... shift. The sounds around her seemed to grow more muffled, the wind itself seemed to slow and become more of a swirling mist rather than a flowing stream. Violet herself almost even seemed to... to glow a little... Dafi almost thought she was going mad for a moment until Violet raised her arms and began to speak,
“When it comes to me who which you’ve chosen to beset,
I must warn you now little one that this you’ll truly regret.
A girl so lost and so defined by her love for a dirty horse,
Will now find that her troubles originate from just such a source.
But now as she stands here her fate is asking may be?
The truth, let it be known, is she was always just a baby.”
As Violet spoke Dafi found that she could barely move. Was something wrong with her? Was she frozen in shock or fear; or was something else holding her there? As Violet’s words finally came to an end, the younger girl lowered her arms, looking at Dafi with a deep smirk on her face. Without another word, Violet turned from the older girl and walked back towards the main barn and the exit to the stables. Dafi wanted to go after her or at least say something, but she found herself a little light headed. Her wobbly knees deposited her onto her knees on the ground. With one last look up at Violet before she disappeared into the stables, Dafi sat there on her knees in the grass and hay; trying to figure out what just happened...
