Now, dear.  If you finish dusting the bedroom and there’s not a speck of dust left, and if you finish cleaning the kitchen in time, and if you prepare an excellent meal for Mamma to serve to our guests, and if you then also get your regular chores done in time for full inspection … if and only if all of those things are true … then Mamma will reward you with a diaper change before your sister’s birthday party.

Now, do let Mamma just remind you, you are still very much grounded.  The rule about wearing only your school uniform while you’re grounded still applies, even on your sister’s birthday.  Mamma plans to relax that rule a little on your own birthday if you’re still grounded then – which Mamma suspects you will be – you’re a terribly naughty girl!  So you won’t have to wear a school uniform to your own birthday party.  No, Mamma has a special birthday outfit hidden in her closet for you!  But we’ll discuss that later.

Where was I? … oh, yes.  You’ll still be wearing school uniform pieces only, but if you can identify all the misbehaviors in your misbehavior log, you can put on a sweater and your longer skirt, the one that covers your diaper, instead of that little pinafore.  Although, really, I don’t understand why you don’t like your little plaid pinafore more.  It’s very flattering on you, dear.  You’re not very good at knowing what you look good in, are you?  You’re lucky you have Mamma to pick out your outfits for you or you’d be a really hopeless little thing, wouldn’t you?

Now, if you finish those chores, and if they’re done well enough to earn that diaper change, your behavior on the changing table will determine what kind of diaper goes back on you for the party.  You can have one of those nice, thin pull-ups you like if Mamma has nothing to complain of in your behavior!  You’re not very good at remembering all your behavior rules, though, so which ones you remember will determine whether, instead of a pull-up, you get a diaper just like the one you’re wearing now – only it’ll start out much dryer than you look to be! – or a fluffy, lacy one that will be obvious under any skirt you wear, not just your sweet little pinafore.

So, to summarize: Today’s chores done, regular chores done, all misbehaviors identified, good behavior during the diaper change, and you’ll be able to attend the party looking like you’re just being punished by having to stay in uniform clothes.  But if you are naughty on any of those points, well … your sister’s friends can be cruel gossips, and the story of you attending a party in a wet diaper will be all over the school and all over town before long.  The rumor mill can be so hard on twentysomething little ladies!  But I suppose that’s just how girls are, isn’t it?

Now, dear, Mamma knows you can listen and dust at the same time!  You only have a couple of hours to go, so hurry up with your little chores!
