Mason was a renowned carpenter and woodworker who lived a pretty normal life until he was kidnapped by cultists, sacrificed to the Forest Gods of Life and Death, and used as a vessel for their powers. The overwhelming magic ripped his body apart within hours, and all that was left was his skull, which turned to petrified wood and grew antlers.

The Gods took mercy on him and bound his spirit to his skull as payment for his sacrifice, and the cultists used it as a religious artifact and conduit for forest magic until a group of adventurers broke into their hideout and accidentally revived Mason. When he first regenerated, all he remembered was his name and being torn apart by divine power, which was his most recent memory. He slowly recalled the other details of his life as more time passed, but isn't sure why he lost his memories in the first place.

He set out with the adventurers to take revenge on the cultists and try to piece his un-life back together, as well as make sense of the God's plan for him.
