Again, sorry for the delay! Landed, napped, then knocked it out.

This is only the tentative Prologue for Book 3 right now. It's a scene I wanted to get in early for sure, and I tend to like making Prologues and Epilogues from a second perspective, so it fits atm. We'll see if it stays around, though, and in what form!

ALSO, PLEASE BE PATIENT WITH THESE RELEASES. I still do not have the MP3s of Fire and Song despite being told I should have them in the first week of Oct, so I don't have all the tools I need to get the ball REALLY rolling without have to do a lot of backtracking. So I don't imagine the first few chapters will be quick in coming out, I'm soooorrrryyyy! 😭

A few rules & reminders:

  • Chapters will be dropping as Bryce completes them. That means anywhere from every 1 to 2 weeks on average, though sometimes waits may be longer.
  • Recall that these are rough chapters, with no editing other than a single pass-through as Bryce writes.
  • On a similar note, we are not asking for advice or corrections at this time. If Bryce wants feedback, we will certainly reach out, thank you! If you want to voice concerns or complaints about the chapter, you may now do so over on the Reddit discussion thread! Notifications are turned off on those conversations, so they're a free-for-all now (within the rules of the subreddit, obviously)!

That's it, so without further ado... Enjoy!

I’m curious when the grandfather found out about Rei and why it’s important enough to not contact him directly.

I'm thinking that Sarah should actually be pretty chill with Rei. Based on the description of her reaction to finding out about him, I'm guessing she was aware that he existed, but had been told that he had died at birth or something along those lines. I'm guessing that this lead to her, during her probably lonely childhood, wondering what could have been if he had been alive, and, now that he is, being pissed off at her father for lying.

I wondered that... why not come at Rei straight up and honestly? Why the games? I never got that, as surely honesty is the best policy. Sure it might mean a longer road to forgiveness, but playing games might piss Rei off even more and thus backfire.
