Hey all! I know some of you are itching for another chapter drop, and we assure you it's coming. Aside from writing Book II, Bryce also has to run the company and deal with the day-to-day responsibilities that come with that, so please be aware that chapters will not be as frequent as some of the serial authors you are likely used to following.

That being said, Bryce is WELL into 2 now, and we wanted to give you all a sneak peek before it drops in full later this week!

Same rules for chapter drops still apply!

CHAPTER 2

PLACEHOLDER

-PLACEHOLDER

10 years would be gone in a flash.

That was the thought that had Valera Dent so distracted in the moment, she barely noticed the flash of vysetrium blades and the scream of steel on steel rising up from the first year students battling it out below her. Indeed, her gaze was far away as she looked down on the massive Wargame zone—an aggressive variation of “Grasslands” with a healthy number of stone outcropping and rolling, dipping hills—too consumed with the exchange she was watching play out before her as rapidly scrolling text in a trio of colors across her frame.

10 years cannot be right. Kes’ words typed themselves out in bright blue. Your calculations are flawed. Run them again.

My calculations are never flawed. The answer came in red. If anything, this is a conservative estimate. Additional data has been consistently leading us to a shorter and shorter timeline.

Meaning what?

Meaning that—extrapolating the trend of the data for the last 50 years—a closer estimation would be 5, perhaps up to 7, if we are lucky.

Valera balked at that, eyes going so wide that Chief Warrant Officer Michael Bretz, the Brawler sub-instructor for the first year Galens cadets, gave a her a sidelong glance even as he shouted down feedback to one student or another. She missed the look of concern, of course. After all, Bretz was as blind to the conversation playing out before her as she was to the scene of the Wargame, in that moment.

5 years… Forget 10. If they really only had 5 years remaining to them…

Can't wait to get to that Archon action

Daylan Ethridge

Two chapters in and casually hints at a nuclear bomb going off... metaphorically

Xien

It had to be something pressuring the mind to start adding this level of variability to cadet selection/assignment… if we are at this kind of incline starting book 2… where in the MIND’s name are we gonna end up?!!! Happy Monday to you too Bryce!

Anonymous

So ... Kes, the AI inside Dent's device, is talking to the MIND, and estimating how long until the Archons overrun humanity and win the war. Dent is shocked they have so little time left. I guess those variables are more important than ever expected.

Heather Herren

I would rather he took his time and write a wonderful book then a rush job!! We don’t know what timeline that is yet.. :-). We will have to see!! Besides.. a bunch of people are going to get postcards? Are we supposed to frame them and send him a picture?

Zebrababies

I don’t really understand what is happening in this scene lol.

Anonymous

Does this imply some of the CADs do have some level of consciousness?

Jeff McClure

Oh whoa… I just assumed that Kes would be “lesser” maybe not as fluid in it’s conversation like MIND was. You know what, I’m just enjoying this ride. Love your writing. Keep up the good work.

Hayden Leech

“Well into 2”? I’m really hoping that means he’s well into writing Stormweaver 2 and not well into writing the second chapter.

Edward Adams

Ok. When is the second book coming out? I have reread the first book at least 6 times

wraithmarked

Hayden, Bryce runs a company that oversees the works of more than 20 authors. Additionally, he's balancing expansion as we explore trying to get you guys cool, high-quality products through Kickstarter and other means. His writing is his outlet, and he has to treat it like an outlet, which means writing will be slower than what a lot of readers may be used to. That's been said time and time again on here and elsewhere.

Zebrababies

While I understand that Bryce has other responsibilities, on Reddit he said he wrote book 1 in 4 months, and expected book 2 to be out by the end of this year. Then we were told first quarter of next year. Now we’re told he’s working on chapter 2 in the last half of the last month of the year. A first quarter release sounds unlikely. I’m fine with waiting for a better quality book, I can just understand people’s frustrations.

Hayden Leech

Oh trust me. I understand the reasons he doesn’t have time to write, that doesn’t really diminish my dismay at the glacial pace that we might get to read book 2. The first book came out October last year. It had sixty chapters and a prologue, at this pace if its close to the same size it will be well into 2023 that it hits shelves and I’m kinda low balling it. “Hopefully 1-2 weeks” between chapters? Oof. He’s not even confident to finish one rough draft of a chapter in fourteen days. I get that he’s busy. It’s just disheartening. I’ll probably hear about stormweaver in a few years and get excited. Till then.

wraithmarked

Hey! Bryce here! My estimations have definitely been off, partially because of how much slower writing for Book 2 has been and partially because of how much work Wraithmarked demands from me as we take on bigger and bigger projects, like Mother of Learning. I can't give a new hard date of expectation, but the book IS coming and writing IS going well so far!

Zebrababies

Totally understandable. Apologies if I came off as ungrateful. I was just trying to explain how someone else who commented was feeling.
