Bakugan popped up when I was around the 4th grade and it kind of was a fad. I never got into it, but some of my friends did. My opinion at the time was that Beyblade, or even Beadamon, was way cooler as Bakugan wasnt that interactive. It was just a ball that popped open when placed on a metal card, which lost it's appeal quickly. Although, it was big here in Canada, Pokemon HGSS blew it out of the water with the Poké walkers soon after. It couldn't compare to the pantheon that Pokémon was throughout elementary school
