All characters in this story are over the age of 18.

Charlie stormed into the emergency room and raced towards Bella as soon as he saw her.

‘’Bella!’’ He yelled in a panic

‘’Da…’’ Bella sighed. ‘’Charlie, I’m fine. I promise.’’

He didn’t look convinced, quickly turning to the closest doctor for a second opinion. Bella wished that she could sink into the mattress of the hospital bed and disappear from all this unwanted attention. It wasn’t her plan to be charted away in an ambulance after the accident. Despite her assurance that she wasn’t injured, the EMT on the scene didn’t want to take any chances, especially when they saw the extent of the damage. To be fair, Bella would have been equally shocked if someone else was in her shoes. The last thing she saw before being taken into the back of the ambulance were other students taking their phones out to capture the moment, talking about how terrifying this ordeal was as if they were the ones who were nearly flattened. Other than her small group of friends, none came to Bella when they realized she wasn’t severely injured.

And there was still no sign of Alice anywhere.

Bella’s mind switched back and forth between a vivid image of Alice’s shocked expression and the very distinct dent that had been left on the van. This was impossible. Bella kept trying to tell herself that. Yet, if it was, she wouldn’t be sitting here without a scratch on her. Bella felt ridiculous the whole time they were inspecting her. The student in the van, whom Bella had learnt the name of during their trip to the hospital, was lying on the bed next to her. Tyler Crowley was conscious, hissing in pain as a nurse put pressure on the myriad of shallow slices over his forehead and cheek to clean the blood away.

As they applied a bandage tightly around his head, he glanced at Bella anxiously. ‘’Bella, I’m so sorry!’’

Before Bella could respond, Charlie turned his attention to the dazed student. ‘’You’re the one who’s going to be sorry. You can kiss your license goodbye.’’

‘’It wasn’t his fault!’’ Bella defended. ‘’There was ice on the road.’’

‘’Then what was he doing driving in the first place…’’

‘’Charlie!’’ Bella snapped, startling everyone in the room. Bella felt her heart coil, but her resolve remained as she locked eyes with her father. ‘’It was an accident. I’m fine. Tyler got it worse. You shouldn’t be treating him like this.’’

A look of apprehension flashed across Charlie’s face. He looked down at the floor and after a moment of pondering, he nodded. ‘’I’m sorry…’’

‘’I’m not the one you should be apologizing to!’’

Exhaling, Charlie turned to Tyler. ‘’I’m sorry. I was out of line. Are you alright?’’

Tyler slowly nodded before his eyes widened in horror. ‘’I didn’t hit anyone, did I?’’

‘’No, you missed me,’’ Bella answered.

‘’Are you sure?’’ he winced. ‘’It felt like I hit someone.’’

The moment of Alice looming over her after saving her played in the back of Bella’s mind as she bit her bottom lip and vigorously shook her head. ‘’You hit my truck. I promise. No one was hurt!’’

Her response calmed Tyler down. He relaxed on the bed as the nurses continued to wrap the bandage around his head. Bella avoided all eye contact. What she told Tyler wasn’t a complete lie. His van did ultimately hit her truck. However, if it weren’t for Alice, Bella would have been flattened between the two vehicles. She hoped that Tyler was going to be too dazed to question her further and that Charlie was going to be too concerned to probe for answers. She was a terrible liar. However, her jaded tone could be mistaken for shock. For now, it seemed like she had gotten away with a thorough interrogation. But, she was going to have many questions for Alice when she next saw her.

‘’I heard the chief’s daughter was here!’’ a musical voice broke through the silence.

Bella turned her head and saw a doctor walk through the door and approach them. He was the same height as Charlie, he was blond, and he had a hypnotic beauty about him that captivated Bella. She had no interest in boys. Yet, there was something magnetic about him. Bella believed that the reason was that she couldn’t figure out if this man was older or younger than he appeared. He seemed almost ageless. Another feature that caught Bella’s eye was his pale skin and the dark circles under his eyes. Bella had a feeling that he was one of those doctors who didn’t get much sleep because they dedicated themselves so much to their work. However, he still seemed cheery, offering Bella a friendly smile before turning to Charlie and shaking his hand.

‘’Dr Cullen,’’ Charlie greeted. ‘’Good to see you.’’

Bella’s throat hitched. This was Alice’s father. It made sense given his ghostly complexion. But, she now had another concern. Was he aware of Alice’s role in this? Had he come to question Bella? She tensed and tried to act innocent.

He took the chart board from one of the nurses and scanned it. ‘’So, Isabella…’’ he spoke in a remarkably appealing voice.

‘’Just Bella is fine.’’ She replied.

‘’Alright, Just Bella, how do you feel?’’

‘’Good.’’

Bella couldn’t relax, fearing that he was going to ask about Alice any second now. He flipped through the pages casually before setting it down and taking a small pen from his coat pocket. Touching the tip, a light shone from the end. ‘’Look at me.’’

Bella followed his instructions. He flashed the light across her eyes a few times, holding up his fingers so that she could focus on it. His face remained soft as his lip curled upward slightly. Bella took that as a good sign. ‘’You might experience some post-traumatic stress and disorientation. But, your vitals look good. No signs of any head trauma. I think you’ll be just fine.’’

Next to her, Bella heard Charlie sigh with relief. ‘’Thank you, Dr Cullen.’’

‘’No need to thank me,’’ he grinned. ‘’But, always better to be safe than sorry.’’

Bella nodded nervously. ‘’I suppose being a doctor means this is the one profession where you want fewer people coming through your doors.’’

Dr Cullen chuckled. ‘’Truer words have never been spoken.’’

Bella wanted to feel at ease, but she couldn’t. It seemed like the kind doctor wasn’t going to ask about his daughter’s involvement. Surely he had to know…right? Bella found herself in a new dilemma. Now, she wanted to know about Alice. But, she knew that she couldn’t outright say that Alice stopped the van from hitting her. The question of how Alice was able to stop the van continued to plague her mind. It was driving her crazy if she didn’t find answers. Perhaps she was being baited into confessing by Dr Cullen. Or, he might be oblivious to what his daughter was capable of.

Either way, Bella couldn’t stay silent.

She cleared her throat. ‘’It would have been worse if Alice hadn’t knocked me out of the way.’’

Charlie looked at Bella. ‘’Alice? She was there too? Is she alright?’’

‘’Yeah, she wasn’t hit. She got to me so fast,’’ Bella glanced over at Dr Cullen. He continued to write down notes, refusing to look at her as she spoke. His face seemed to harden, but he retained his pleasant smile for now. Bella’s intuition flickered. ‘’I wanted to thank her.’’

‘’I’ll let her know! I don’t think I’m needed here anymore,’’ Dr Cullen signed Bella’s chart with a flourish and quickly handed it back to the nurse. He departed before Bella could protest. She narrowed her eyes at the doctor as she watched him leave the emergency room. Even Charlie seemed perplexed by his swift exit. But, he thought nothing more of it.

Bella, on the other hand, felt like she was just scratching the surface of something bigger at play.

‘’I’m going to need to sign some paperwork. You should…uh…’’

Charlie’s hesitation made Bella stop and turn. She wanted to vacate the hospital as soon as possible. They just had to go around one more corner before coming upon the entrance of the building. Charlie stopped and was about to make his way to the reception when he froze. He hung his head guiltily as he tried to finish his sentence.

‘’You should probably call your mom,’’ he said.

Bella flinched. ‘’Does she have to know? I told you that I’m fine…’’

‘’It wouldn’t be fair if she’s left in the dark. Just start by saying that you’re fine and that might make the discussion easier.’’

He tried to sound hopeful, but they both knew that she would be in hysterics upon hearing what almost happened to her daughter. Bella already knew that her mom would be begging her to come home as if car accidents were a blight that only befell the town of Forks. But, she knew that Charlie was right. Bella would want to know if something happened to Renée. She sighed with exasperation and nodded. ‘’Fine.’’

Charlie scratched the side of his face. ‘’And…I’m sorry again for how I reacted back there. You’re right. I shouldn’t have lashed out at that kid. I was just scared that you had been hurt. I just got you back into my life again, Bells. I don’t want to lose you.’’

‘’I know.’’

Bella walked away and took out her phone as Charlie trudged over to the reception desk. Bella glared at the number in her contacts. As her thumb hovered over the screen, she heard a tense ongoing discussion taking place around the corner.

‘’What else was I supposed to do? Let her die?’’

‘’I’m not saying that. But, we want to make sure that no one else saw you.’’

‘’I think we should take this conversation to my office.’’

There were three distinct voices. Bella recognized two of them. The last one to speak was Dr Cullen, in a more hushed tone than before. The middle one was from someone she had never met before. But, the first voice…Bella’s heart skipped a beat as she had never heard Alice talk with such determined grit in her words. It sent a chill down her spine.

She was so bewitched by it as if being tempted into the ocean by a siren, that she walked around the corner and came into view of the trio. They all glanced over and spotted Bella. Dr Cullen didn’t look too surprised to see her. The woman, whom Bella guessed to be Mrs Cullen fixed her steely gaze at the young woman. Bella felt her cheeks warm. She was breathtakingly beautiful. Too perfect for words. And, like her husband, had an ethereal presence that made it impossible to guess her age. Yet, once Bella locked eyes with Alice, she couldn’t look away. Alice’s jaw clenched as she shifted awkwardly on her feet. It looked like she was about to run away.

‘’Can I talk to you for a minute,’’ Bella called out.

Alice almost seemed compelled to come forward. She looked over her shoulder at Dr Cullen. He forced a smile and nodded before turning to the other woman. ‘’Esme.’’

The woman, Esme, grabbed Alice’s arm tenderly. ‘’We’ll be in Carlisle’s office.’’

As soon as they walked away, Alice approached Bella. The positive aura that Bella remembered from class earlier in the day had disappeared. She seemed to be a shell of herself. ‘’Are you okay?’’ she asked.

‘’I’m fine,’’ Bella stepped closer. ‘’What about you? Is your hand okay?’’

Bella didn’t want to sound forward. She just wanted answers. However, Alice seemed to grow tenser by the second. She looked around to make sure that no one else was near them as she leaned forward. Bella’s cheeks reddened as the gap between them was closed once more. When Alice noticed this, a flicker of a smile returned and she stepped back. ‘’Sorry, you must still be feeling a little lightheaded.’’

‘’Yeah, that seems to happen a lot when I’m around you…’’ Bella paused. She meant it as a joke to ease the tension. However, she realized the implication and her blushes brightened. She smiled at Alice. But, she quickly returned to the topic at hand. ‘’What happened in the parking lot? I want to hear it from you.’’

‘’We got lucky…’’

‘’Lucky?’’ Bella gasped.

‘’Yeah,’’ Alice whispered. ‘’I was…coming over to see you when I saw the van sliding. I…I grabbed you and pulled you down.’’

Bella glared at her. ‘’It sounds like you’re rehearsing the story as you speak. We both know what really happened.’’

Alice licked her lips. ‘’Okay…I want to hear it from you.’’

Bella’s answer came out in a rush. "All I know is that you weren't anywhere near me. That van was going to crush me. You appeared out of the blue and stopped it with one hand. Your palm left a dent on the side of it. And you don’t seem hurt at all. You should have been the one being checked, not me!’’

‘’You were worried about me?’’ she teased.

‘’Don’t do that!’’ Bella snapped defensively. ‘’What I saw should be impossible. I just want you to explain how it happened. I don’t want to lie through my teeth when people ask me what happened…’’

‘’Neither do I,’’ Alice blurted out. Her jaw tightened again. The words seemed to be on the tip of her tongue before she stopped herself. She glanced over her shoulder to make sure they were alone before gazing at Bella. ‘’I can’t.’’

‘’Why not?’’ Bella stepped closer. ‘’If you’re worried about me telling anyone, I promise that I won’t. If it’s a secret you hold then I will keep it.’’

This time, Alice retreated. She was shocked by how close their faces were. Yet, she still didn’t blush. Bella was beginning to wonder if she had ever seen color appear on the woman’s face.

Fearing that she had overstepped, Bella pulled away and sighed. ‘’I’m sorry. Not even ten minutes ago I was scolding my dad for lashing out, and now I’m doing something similar. I just want to know if everything is okay with you.’’

Surprise flitted across Alice’s face. ‘’You’re not going to let this go, are you?’’

‘’No.’’

Bella’s blunt answer made Alice laugh. When she looked over her shoulder again, Bella felt that there was more that Alice wasn’t telling her. She was constantly checking to make sure that no one was standing where her parents were a moment ago. Bella started to ponder that Alice wasn’t on the lookout for random eavesdroppers. Was she making sure that her parents weren’t spying on her? Bella’s concern rose.

‘’Are you well enough to come back to school tomorrow?’’ Alice asked.

Bella’s face lit up with hope. ‘’Yeah, they gave me some Tylenol to take with me. But, I’m well enough to go back to school.’’

Alice looked at her; her stunning face was unexpectedly vulnerable. ‘’I’ll explain everything tomorrow. Okay?’’

‘’Okay,’’ Bella whispered back.

And then Alice turned and walked away.

Even as Bella drifted to sleep, she was consumed by the mystery that was Alice Cullen.

It was also the first night she dreamt of her.

In her dream, it was very dark, and what dim light there was seemed to be radiating from Alice’s skin. Bella couldn’t move as Alice approached her. Both of them were completely naked. Bella didn’t feel uneasy or embarrassed. She wasn’t sure how she felt as all of her attention was focused on Alice. Her nude body was illuminated and on full display. Bella wanted to reach out and touch her. But, she couldn’t move at all. She was at Alice’s mercy. She shot Bella a wicked smile before slowly walking around her like a predator on the prowl. Alice’s fingers danced over Bella’s skin. Bliss and excitement surged throughout Bella’s body. She was becoming particularly aroused down below. Her cock was beginning to throb intensely as Alice circled her.

‘’Bella…’’ Alice purred. Her husky voice faded into the void. ‘’My Bella.’’

Bella moaned when she felt Alice grasp her from behind. Her breasts rubbed against Bella’s back as her hands roamed. One of Alice’s hands found its way to Bella’s breast, fondling the perky mound, while the other travelled down between Bella’s legs to claim her cock. A hushed whimper escaped from Bella. Alice’s fingers curled around her shaft and pumped it. Bella couldn’t breathe as her cock was stroked harder and faster. Alice’s mouth was pressed against her neck. The strange woman kissed and sucked on one spot. Bella gasped sharply when she felt Alice’s teeth graze her throat.

They were sharp. Too sharp.

Before Bella could realize what was happening, it felt like Alice’s teeth were sinking into her skin. Blood was drawn. Alice jerked her off as fast as humanly possible, nullifying the pain with overwhelming pleasure. Bella felt her impending release drawing near. Closer and closer.

Suddenly, she caught a glimpse of Alice fully biting into her neck. Two white fangs flashed like lightning.

Bella bolted upright, shaking and sweating profusely. She glanced around her bedroom. Everything was masked in darkness. But, she knew that this was reality. Alice was nowhere to be seen. Bella panted heavily as she looked down and spotted her hand tucked inside her pants, teasing herself. She groaned under her breath and slumped back down. Alice continued to haunt her, even in her dreams.

Although, if Bella’s dreams were always going to be like that, she didn’t mind being haunted.
