usually i always upload audios as .mp3 files, but recently i found out downloading the audio file as a .wav file apparently keeps the audio quality in the best condition possible.

i have been asked by a few people to upload my last audio as an .mp3 file instead of .wav, which makes me wonder, which one do you all prefer?

i understand .wav also takens up more storage space, which is why i originally went for .mp3 files, but i want my audios to be the best quality for you all!

please vote in this poll so i can figure out which file type i should upload my audios as!

Higher quality can be converted to lower quality. Lower quality cannot be converted to higher quality

strawberry

so you’re saying people could download the .wav file and turn it into an .mp3 file?

Necturn

To be honest I don't much care either way 😅. Tho I doubt that most people would notice a difference in quality in one format over the other. At least I don't lol

strawberry

part of me wants it to be the best possible version and improve but the other part of me says “don’t fix what isn’t broken” you know? plus i also don’t know how obvious the difference is, personally i can’t really tell a difference but maybe others can?

I would agree that better to maybe use the wav because people can convert to lower quality if they prefer, and there are many free online converters. though is it possible to post both maybe?

Nistramai

They absolutely could. It's an extra process and some will probably complain about it being extra annoying on mobile. Used to do it on my PC back in the day all the time

You could also look into FLAC files. They have pretty much the same quality as WAV files, but are compressed. So, in reality, they are actually smaller in size than WAV. WAV is better for audio edits, but FLAC sounds pretty much identical to anyone just listening. However, the file is not as universally compatible as WAV. I don't think anyone running modern phones or computers will have any problems, but it might be worth running a community test to see if there are wide-spread issues? ALSO it is worth mentioning WAV and FLAC can be converted between each other pretty easily.

Either way, I'd appreciate the larger file if possible (WAV or FLAC). But then again, I'm just a weird audio kid. MP3 is perfectly serviceable. The big difference is the noise floor and depth of your vocals/folly work. That difference gets more pronounced with higher quality listening equipment. Most people wouldn't be able to tell without REALLY scrutinizing or turning up the volume a fair bit.

I prefer mp3 because I download everything so I can toss it into a playlist on my phone but the app doesn't work with wav files. I would be fine if you uploaded a link to a Google drive with the MP3 files tbh

Everything in my Library is lossless, so +1 for WAV. Sometimes larger really is better :D

It's not directly about the perceived difference. But as a macOS user I convert my files to Apple's format to sync with my iPhone and other PCs. Converting MP3 to ALAC again would be a huge waste of space since so much got removed already and converting it to a lossy format like AAC again further reduces the quality. Would really appreciate a lossless format like WAV, especially with such lovely content from you strawberry :) (small hint: zip the WAV file, that's similar how ALAC and FLAC works)

Maybe a bit late of a comment but I'm 100% for the .wav uploads! I use headphones to listen to all of your creations and would very much like higher quality and would definitely notice it too

I’m a neutral party, as long as I can download them and listen to them anywhere, I don’t mind
