In reference to the link above, those are all things I do with pretty  much every drawing, especially the “tiny thumbnails” thing. Using my recent Zelda picture as an example, you can see my initial doodles at the top (pic #1).

I  often make a stick figure roughly an inch large and draw simple details  because it’s super quick and easy to draw. If I don’t like how it turns  out, then I just move the canvas a bit and make another one.

Once  I’ve made a doodle that I like, I blow it up to the size of the canvas,  make a new layer, and draw proper anatomy over it at full size (pic  #2). After I’ve made a “refined” layer, I essentially trace over it to  make the final line art as well as add text & effects (pic #3), and  finally do the coloring, shading, and background (pic #4).
