Yep once again you've experienced why The Who is my favorite rock band. I enjoy you putting things in perspective by recognizing the time period these albums/songs were released. This album was after Tommy ( honestly my least favorite album of the Keith Moon era of the band but I understand the place it holds in rock history, but there are a few sub-par/filler songs on that one in my opinion) and then comes Quadrophenia, a near-perfect record and its a freakin double one at that as you know. The thing about Who studio albums are they feel like live on stage performances not studio recordings. The emotion and intensity come across in all their studio albums more so than with any other band that I can think of. Having that kind of intensity captured in a studio is extremely rare and it just gets intensified live. Geez, they were a great live band. If you have the time to watch the live version of Won't Get Fooled Again from Shepperton Studios, I guarantee you 9 minutes of joy and surprise. I know I recommend a lot of things to you but this is as truly a must-see. When you do you'll fully understand what I mean by the live performances of this band just take the intensity you get from the studio albums up about 20 notches. Thanks again for sharing this and keep enjoying it! PS: I watched your Star Wars podcast and enjoyed it a great deal. You and your guest made some great points about the movies and had some good fun along the way.

I totally agree with you Ron. I got to see The Who live several times over the years and they never disappoint and surprisingly are able to recreate the complex, layered multi track instrumentation from their studio albums with the great energy and clarity from their studio albums. I had to wait forty years to get to see them perform the entire Quadrophenia album in 2013 and I was amazed how great they still sounded all those years later. Cheers
