Ryan, you are 100% correct that the sound was ahead of its time in a sense. It was the beginning of that dirty guitar sound and they led the way. The Who are kinda the Metallica of their day and that's why they became my rock band of choice. In concert, they were outrageous and wonderful, real rebellion stuff for a 16-year-old (although I was 13 when the album came out). Keith Moon's loss really hurt the energy of the band and after his death, the music became more refined and much of the power of the music was stripped out. There are still a few good tunes in the albums that came after his death but it just wasnt the same.

On your own or if you want to react, find their performance from the Smothers Brothers show. Keith had the road crew attach explosives to his drums. Thats all I'm going to tell you (you'll love it) ALSO a must see is their performance of "Wont Get Fooled Again" from Shepperton Studios. Thats the song from CSI. Please watch it, it will bring you joy I promise.

playing, the great bass guitar and drum lines and Pete and Roger’s amazing vocals. These guys can still bring it. Glad you now know how amazing this band is and what a masterpiece this album is.

PS: on the Smothers Brothers video you need to know that Keith didn't tell the other band members about the explosives AND the roadies had never worked with explosives.
